nowadays courtney could have just put fentinyl in his H

I wish I could fuck him in some sort of time machine

I wish I could travel back in time to be the one that kills him.

So Nirvana could end up making a pretty good 4th album, breaking up, then reuniting for a shitty newer album that we all think stinks?

But Ariel Pink is alive user

I think he changed his views on women near the end, when he wasn't so sure about courtney's faithfulness.

someone did already. but he was been rescued to about 2080. so you should become rescued too. or get old.

You and Kuck will NEVER be women

Would be a shame to never have gotten MCIS or Zwan but it'd be worth it to still have Cobain

Hot.

Wish I had a time machine so I could go back and help Hitler strategize.

The mistake of Generation X is that they took a lot of bohemian and 'subversive' / edgy impulses and features - at a degree that contradicts the popular - that should have remained the province of a bohemian minority and made it mainstream, in effect neutralizing and forever destroying them in that edgy/anti form. Which I suppose was necessary because it was a myth anyways, based in the Marxist paradox, of simultaniously seeing oneself as the edgy subversive outsider eternal-loser-underdog, and yet at the same time trying to win and become the establishment and new order. Eventually some superficial element and form of this does get integrated into the order which becomes a cringey mockery / embarrassment for the self-regarding 'underdogs' (hence, Kurt killing himself in shame) while flooding the mainstream with a new norm of meaningless edge and hedonic nihilism as universal consumerist model but with any of the thrill or subversive eroticism utterly drained. Which is why left-liberalism as model of the cool and sexy and new can never work now, it's beyond the norm and it's fucking mind-numbingly dull.

Like you would be of any use to him.

Fuck you. I would have been one of Hitler's top men.

>what is occam's razor

Say that to Billie Eilish fans.

if only you knew how good things really are

Hey you guys remember Antlers - Hospice?

I think the problem you’re describing was caused lesser so by the artists themselves but by the marketing and labels behind them, or by other commercially motivated artists that tried to appropriate these sensibilities towards a mainstream audience in a way that created a slippery slope for the quality of what you describe. It’s a shame that post grunge happened but I don’t think that Kurt et al should be explicitly blamed for it as much as what surrounded him/them

I read like a quarter of your post and typed this

In what way was GenX about "trying to win and become the establishment and new order?"
Do you have any specific examples?

I do. I have many powerful memories associated with that album, none of them positive.

Well, in a way I'd say that Gen X, by which (specifically) I mean what started as the aftermath of punk culture/values (so actually a small but culturally influential minority), that developed through the indie / college rock / college scene and spawned grunge and alternative.... I'm not saying they meant as a whole to become the mainstream, or thought it through completely. I do think in a lot of cases, yes, many of the bands did want to get big and be a phenomenon on Mtv, you saw this in the boom of alt bands getting singed in the early 90s. And in Perry Farrell taking this larger nexus of alternative music and bringing it to the mainstream with Lollapalooza. And with the whole alternative and critical narrative about grunge/alternative 'saving us' from hair metal or heavy metal (obviously they meant something cooler or realler replacing this supposedly fake / slick Mtv pseudo-rock, but that implies 'Alternative' becoming the new mainstream Mtv image / sound, which it became).

I just think a lot of these people wanted to have their cake and eat it too, Kurt especially. You had bands that wanted to do big shows and go on Headbanger's Ball or whatever 'alt'-oriented show replaced it, but resented that most of the crowd became dudebro jocks.

And you also had the more political side to the Alternative Gen X thing, where 'alternative lifestyles' and underground culture was definitely being sold and there was a very conscious intention to make it the mainstream. The Simpsons bringing an underground comix aesthetic / mentality to television. Riotgrrl feminism by way of Courtney Love, Kurt supporting gay rights. Not that I'm complaining about that but when it comes to the political side of cultural brigading the intention is very much to go mainstream.
