Yeah, I was crazy about this album when I was 18.

I appreciated it later because at 18 I was still in my edgy The Holy Bible phase

AND ON THE STREET TONIGHT AN OLD MAN PLAYS

There's something about SYMM but in general it's one of my favourite Manic albums. If there's something that truly bothers me is the selection of singles, they're very good song but I think they only tell half of the story apart from If You Tolerate This.

Something about SYMM that doesn't click with me like Nobody Loved You*/ does*

Tolerate is a great choice for the single, but I think commercially You Stole the Sun from My Heart was also an excellent choice, even if its not one of my favourite tracks. The Everlasting and Tsunami I have doubts about, mainly the latter.

The lyrics to SYMM are pseudo-philosophical pretentious wank. Shame because the music (and especially production) are great and musically its one of my favs on the album

Tsunami is too slow and too much of an outcast commercially to be a single in my opinion, it's not very easy to digest even though I like it. I'm still perplexed as to how The Everlasting didn't chart any higher though since it has that similar pop vibe Tolerate has.

I think that's it, the bittersweet melodrama of Nobody Loved You's lyrics fit way better as a closer than SYMM specially because they leave that sourly sad taste in your mouth at the end that in my opinion is great at delivering the final motif of grief that the rest of the album has, SYMM seems to resolve that taste and leaves me confused at the end.

I ain't listening to a band with a name like that, my man

Remove I'm Not Working and SYMM and it's nearly perfect

Also Ready for Drowning should have been a single

the band is not named "this is my truth tell me yours" user

Manic Street and the Preachers?

>Ready for Drowning should have been a single
definitely agreed

Uh oh retard alert!

a-user whats wrong with your username

Never got into that album somehow and never understood why that one made them big.

the original is still good but this is the superior version of Tsunami

everything must go and lead single's momentum

THE GAP OUR PARENTS NEVER HAD

I prefer Everything Must Go

yea, everything must go is a better album for sure, but this is my truth is still really good

I'm Not Working should have been a b-side. Just put Black Holes for the Youth or Prologue to History instead

Gold Against the Soul and Know Your Enemy are underrated

>Black Holes
Montana/Autumn/78 would have given the album a better balance between than heavy and soft though

I struggle to find a fitting place for montana on the album, it would stand out like a spore thumb wherever you'd put it lol. I think trying to balance out mellow and rocking in the case of this album is a futile exercise honestly

Antifascist crap

KYM is bloated as fuck, would be better if they cut it down to 50 minutes

KYE*

Lifeblood is the most underrated MSP album

For me it's 1985, one of their most underrated songs
I have no idea how this song was never a single and instead they chose that Richard Nixon song (which still somehow reached number 2 in UK chart)

Lifeblood singles both reached 2 on the UK Single Charts because iirc in 2004 sales of singles were so ridiculously low that they wouldnt reach top20 with the same numbers even 3 years before

But yeah, 1985 is an obvious single

Lifeblood is the best album Coldplay never made

It's even funnier because the album itself only paked at number 13 which is their lowest chart position with the debut

It still boggles my mind how this song topped the chart though, it's their only number 1 single with If You tolerate this

I always attributed that to that huge ass new years eve 2000 gig at millenium stadium. They released that single really soon after it happened and I guess they were really big in peoples minds at that moment
