Get Up With It is my current favorite Miles album.
my hot take is that this album does nothing for me, but im not gonna tell you why you're wrong because i think i am
Where to find good reviews of jazz records?
I think as far as jazz is concerned there aren’t many new wave artists bringing much to the table, I think the artist above are probably the only people in the genre really keeping it alive? I know that sounds harsh but it’s the honest truth
progarchives for fusion
When there's a 7alt chord on a chord chart, does it mean that I can play any kind of extended altered dominant chord on it?
I mean on paper an altered dominant chord can have a flat 5, flat 9, sharp 9, sharp 11, flat 13
try to study harmony in a more depth way my friend. you can make it simple if you want, but whats the point? every chord has a lot lo learn and jazz is about learning. try reading the schoenberg harmony book for instance.
secondind this
Impulse is better than Blue Note but Blue Note is more consistent.
Been getting into some jazz fusion lately. This album was pretty good.
Jazzthreadguy has a blog and it's pretty great.

The London scene is neither bad nor good. It averages out to 5/10 overall.
I can't get into London Scene stuff at all. It sounds like the kind of thing a high school jazz combo would play after they graduated.
He has a lot more reviews on his RYM though
This is an opinion that only people who aren't really checking out contemporary jazz have. Listen to pic related
Stale
Is Afrobeat jazz or it's own thing completely? Either way Fela's got some steaming hot tracks
You're right in the sense that it's not very technical but the production and the range of influences displayed is better than most high school jazz combos would be capable of. It accomplishes what it tries to very effectively, it just so happens that the popular aesthetics it favours are antithetical to the more art music influenced stuff on ECM or Criss Cross.
I agree. I've tried to get into it a few times, but it just really feels less mature and developed. Not for me.

These kids are the most exciting musicians currently.
are you talking about the album?
I used to think this. But now I really enjoy some contemporary stuff. Even if not all of it is always groundbreaking. Pic related was one of the first things that caught my attention since it doesn’t have electronics or anything really that could be considered gimmicky but it doesn’t really sound like any jazz that was happening before the 2000s as far as I know.
Yes
If you don't like experimental music, straight ahead hard bop/post bop, pop focused spiritual jazz, third stream or free jazz then you're out of luck.
You're right if you're referring to the state of big band swing and Dixieland though.
This album is great. Very cool music.
You're entitled to that opinion, but could you explain why? I think that album is some of the coolest music coming out today.
I transcribed the entirety of the first song on this record in college, what an incredible player and composer
Shakti with John Mclaughlin
>could you explain why?
It just sounds like something I've heard hundreds of times before. It's certainly not bad, but I don't find it particularly interesting.
some more amazing music
I’m a basic bitch when it comes to fusion, just getting into it.
post guitar players
This good
They're both technically great players, but I don't particularly enjoy the music that they make. Maybe I just don't get it.
