Eurobeat is awesome, give it a chance. It's also a chronological mix, so it starts with early eurobeat/italo-disco, which is slower than modern eurobeat, but eventually starts to build steam and finishes with the super fast eurobeat everybody should love.

In my experience they are pretty good compilations. Now, talking about "essential folk records" is difficult, because unlike with popular music, there are no historically important recordings that influenced further recordings from the genre. In general the more diverse the compilation of a folk recording, the better, as long as it accurately represents what its meant to represent.
