What would his legacy be like if he had died from that heroin overdose in 2000?
What would his legacy be like if he had died from that heroin overdose in 2000?
he would've been like kurt cobain and kids would wear nin shirts to look cool (more than that do so now)
and we would've lost a lot of incredible stuff that he's made since then
>he would've been like kurt cobain and kids would wear nin shirts to look cool (more than that do so now)
nin wasn't that relevant in popular culture to beging with
mega based timeline
he would've been missed by a niche group of people till sometime in the 10s when people suddenly start coming out and saying he was underrated
plus The Fragile is literal perfection, sure we wouldn't have gotten Ghosts, With Teeth or his film scores but still
I agree that they would have blasted his image everywhere as a rock martyr the same way they did with Kurt. The Downward Spiral, even though it is considered a classic record, would be in the top 10 of every album list forever. It would have been a shame though because Trent has aged like a fine wine.
True The Fragile is literal perfection as in there is literally nothing wrong with that album and all songs are excellent. Hell, even the different versions of the album are perfection including Deviations
based rocky balboa
if anyone would have been better off dying of a heroin overdose in 2000, it'd be this guy instead of trent
stop talking about Trent dying. isn't it bad enough we already lost Bowey?
Sorry, just a morbid fascination. Trent was "the man who lived" in the 90s. Came so close to the wire, it's funny to think how different things could have been.
Honestly, big lost for music. I absolutely adore NIN's discography and some of my most favorite albums are Post-Fragile, With_Teeth and The Slip are my most listened NIN albums, that may sound plebby, but I don't want to feel any shame in it as I see those albums being some of the best rock albums out there.
The EP Trilogy is also incredibly based.
This. If he died after Holy Wood he would have actually had a legacy.
did his eyebrows die of a heroin overdose?
Much like what Iggy Pop was to the 70s
nirvana tier prolly
Bowie was an old man with cancer (?) Trent still has another 20 years of music to make.
True actually. I don't rank him highly as an artist now, but if he died after Holy Wood I would think much much more of him
This...
Yup.
Same as it was, GOAT then, GOAT now.
where to start with NIN?
Listen to his first 4 albums. Preferably in release order
What kind of music do you like?
killing joke
The Downward Spiral was huge and I remember a bunch of stuff through the 90s from him that was popular. Maybe he wasn’t huge in the ghetto or barrio you grew up in but he was massive in white suburbia
Listen to all of his main albums including some EPs in release order.
The EPs being, Broken, Not The Actual Events and Add Violence, these are just as essential as his albums.
Don't ignore Still.
Start at the very beginning with Pretty Hate Machine.
Elliott Smith status, not too famous but acknoweledged by music fans
With that answered by many..
How will the world react to Trent's death now?
>How will the world react to Trent's death now?
He's become something of a cult figure now, but I think when he does go (hopefully not for a few more decades yet), the music press and a lot of people will look back at his whole career and really recognize how brilliant he is. His commercial appeal has waned, but I don't think there's any other 90s alt-rock artist that has had the artistic longevity that he has. Breaching into ambient and soundtrack work was probably the best move he ever made in that it will allow him to keep making relevant and acclaimed work well into his 70s if he wants to.
Wish was pretty fucking huge.
old town road would never exist
