I want to learn Delta blues but it seems like a lot of songs use alternative tunings, I'm barely learning the notes on the standard tuning fretboard, should I try to learn the songs on alt tuning with tabs and not know what notes i'm on, or be more oriented with the instrument before trying alt tunings?

Tom Herington seems to have traded in his ES-335 for an SG recently. He seems to nail the Larry Carlton tone with it. He solos during the Green Earring part of the vid.

Vid is also pretty good at showing how a strat sounds vs how an SG sounds. Notice (towards the end of the video when the 2 guys are trading lines) how the strat's tone changes in the upper registers compared to lines played in the lower register vs how the SG remains more mellow as Herington goes up the neck.

It can be compared to this place fairly well. People argue over whether the price of brand names can be justified or not, larping traditionalists vs. larping early adopters, but the worst are the gram-weenies who in all seriousness will claim that because their tent/sleepingbag/pack/boots weigh 5 grams less than yours does, they know much more about camping than you ever could. Most music doesn't matter in the long run either, but at least music requires a degree of ability, which photography does not, and at least there's a chance you'll play it in a bar or put it on soundcloud and someone will get enjoyment out of it. Even the best photographers are just people with a good eye for lighting who can't paint or draw.
