Is this the hardest non-metal song ever?

was expecting March of the Pigs but got an even more based answer. Solid post user.

no my dick is

thanks user
its probably my favourite NIN song
terrified me the first time i heard it but i fucking love it so much

When I listen to TDS I imagine ancient Oriental warfare and the aftermath

why, if i may ask?
i imagine a lot of things when listening to TDS, but.... not that

>solid build up, interesting atmosphere
>ruins it all with corny as fuck vocals and melody at the end

This is gonna sound kinda cringe but
When I first listened to this album about a decade ago I was 16. It literally terrified me to my core. I used to get genuinely scared listening to this album, like it would give me a feeling of sickness in my belly. I had never heard sounds like that before in music, all i had listened to before was standard indie rock and pop
Unfortunately I can't get that feeling from music anymore now that the youthful naivety has worn off, and my tastes have expanded enough that nothing in music really "surprises" me anymore. But it was really cool while it lasted.

corny, sure, but no one said the lyrics in TDS are original or nuanced
they're angry and edgy and aggressive, as was intended

No, this is

Probably that and Right Wrong by Swans

i had a sort of similar experience with NIN, although weirdly it wasn't TDS but with teeth, it was the first NIN i'd ever heard, when i was like 11 or 12, and i'd never listened to anything even remotely as experimental as it, and it blew my mind, just how much the tone and genre could change within one album
probably the first music i listened to that opened my mind to how different and unique music could be

When I listened to it I felt nothing really or didn't like it (still don't really) but I felt that way about Suicide

nah, early swans, foetus, even skinny puppy(sometimes) sound harder.
and noise/power electronics still exist.

happens to everyone dude, i was really into With Teeth when it dropped cus i was a mainstream dork but Only got steady airplay on my local tv station so i started going through NIN's stuff at a pretty young age. I guess I would've been 9 or so when With Teeth came out so you can imagine how weird of a kid i was.

>angry and edgy and aggressive
and I wish they could do that in a way that didn't make me wince

try going down the spiral and come back we'll talk bout it

You're like a little baby

bros

I got this feeling from listening to Project 86 as a young christian lad. I used to skip over this song "Say Goodnight to the Bad Guy" on the album I had because it freaked me out.

to each their own
i don't feel like lyrics have to be truthful or honest or genuine to work well with the music

All onions shit by the way.

This isn't the hardest, but it definitely has one of the weirdest, most uneasy and "unnatural" vibes of any non-metal song I've heard
youtube.com/watch?v=xJUJ-qNdsf8
also by based NIN

youtube.com/watch?v=r2bL7DU21Wg
I think this song is also a good argument for that

not from that EP, but the last few minutes of the background world from add violence is the most freaked out and uncomfortable i've been listening to a song in a long fucking time
amazing that even after 30 years trent can still surprise and amaze me

still better than nin. and foetus is based af

He's topped that by including straight up painful high pitched ringing on this song: youtube.com/watch?v=BLj7S1QShdk

not the best whitehouse’s song but still harder than this

You listened to Scott Walker? Give Bisch Bosh a go. youtu.be/XGGqnFF0rCA

Tilt and The Drift are also phenomenal, The Drift probably his best - but they're albums where you can have listened to everything and still give you a sense of dread and terror. Some humour in there too

Not even close:

would have understood if you were 12 or 13 but 16...lol
