Nickelback and Foo Fighters killed it

all music is pretty dead right now

Genres really don't die out, but they however turn into something that can be in a way for what is underground upon communities reliant on the sounds similar to classical and jazz. Also, they are thrived to give out more creativity for other new artists of that specific genre to leave in some fresh air coming up with new opportunities and flourishing ideas. Highly recommend going deep in it's history by wikipedia nonetheless.

Couldnt adapt to the changes in the music industry post Napster. Once Napster hit it was done.

This , also pic related is the future of rock music

Maybe it's not actually dead?

our media exiled white men

wellp, I'm a dumbass and thought it was cool to talk about that

If you don't know why it's dead, then it's probably not.

When do you think a genre dies? When the founder of one of it’s most popular bands is a satanic ephebophile who can’t write a song without committing plagiarism? No. When the voice of a generation is killed by his girlfriend who then makes it look like they killed themselves? No. When a dumbass names his band after something he likes to say to his customers at Starbucks!? No! It’s when… it is forgotten.

Because people have been brainwashed by rap music.

> mfw they've been saying rock dead since before Elvis

The rock station in my city currently ranks as the 5th most listened to station. They play stuff like Metallica, GNR, Journey, Led Zeppelin, and others like them.

Same reason rock killed jazz, trends just change

Rock isn't dead. Rock music is still released fucking constantly even if Hip-hop and Pop are more popular at moment.

Why isn't rock as popular as it used to be? Well, the genre has been around for 70 fucking years now. The sound has been milked to death, rock has spawned so many subgenres it's difficult to really do anything new with it. Meanwhile, we are seeing new and interesting things being done hip-hop and electronic music because there is still untapped potential there. Musicians see that and create something new.

it is idealizing black culture; rap music pretty much. it's not dead, just popular choice

This. Also, like jazz most of the rock legends are now dead, retired or washed up

Black midi fucking sucks ahahahahaha

new bands don't have balls (the roll is missing from the rock) and talented people don't gravitate to rock anymore

Record labels do not want to pay five guys in a band like they used to. That's why most of the rock bands these days only have one or two real members.

neither does any of the new hip hop or pop music. it's all excuses for lack of variety.

It's hard to compete with what's already been done in rock, so artists moved on. Younger generations don't have many peers making rock music so it becomes hard for them to identify with and enjoy.

Rock's not doing anything fresh that captures the cultural zeitgeist. Your average person doesn't wanna listen to underground standouts like Swans, King Gizzard or Daughters for example as the music is still a different take on something from before and really long songs/really abrasive songs don't have appeal.

Also the band format in general just can't compete as much in a logistical/economical/technological way. The main reason it was able to compete for so long is that a band of 3-5 people being able to make a ton of noise thanks to amplifiers is more efficient than a massive orchestra of musicians. Now that band is being outdone by the individual who just need their laptop and those same amps in terms of efficiency.

Rock is alive.

Write something you know something about you mong

who named his band after something he likes to say at starbucks?

Commercialism caused shitty rock music to dominate the mainstream and people got bored of it. Some time around Nickelback. They were an absolutely shit band that became mainstream. They were playing generic grungy alt rock, and the industry decided that since that sounds like nirvana and pearl jam etc, (the mainstream at the time) then that means they should put nickelback at the top of the main stream. It's not about what's good any more, it's about what's marketable. And music consumers are fucking stupid so it's 40% about whats good and 60% about whats trendy, so people latched onto terrible shit like nickelback and creed since they were on mtv and the radio, and the state of the mainstream has never really recovered.

suave rock(strokes, arctic monkeys) musical theatre rock(imagine dragons), post grunge(nickelback foo fighters), goof rock(mac demarco), none of this shit goes hard enough

Because people wrote essays on it rather than made or listened to it.

Load of crap, if anything there are more bands today than there were 10 years ago.
What's weirder is they hang out with hip hop artists like they did in the 90's, then that fizzled for some reason.
I guess people want something new compared to current generalised sound, but something that is also "brandable" and able to stir a scene perhaps.
