Nirvana v. Oasis: Which is the band of the 90s

Oasis had the better songs IMO but Nirvana definitely had the attitude of the 90s. I say Oasis by an asshair what do you guys think?

That's not even the best britpop band, nor made the best britpop album. And that's the most basic grunge band

Nirvana, and it's not particular close. Oasis had some great tunes but they're vastly overrated by the british press.

oasis benefitted massively from the self congratulatory echo chamber of inward facing british culture critique. nirvana is better by about a cubic mile.

Wannabe beatles isn't a good band

I like Oasis more so therefore Oasis is the better band

>Nirvana
Bit poofy
>Oasis
Fooken biblical m8

Seems pretty clear cut innit?

Only some English twat would even make this comparison. Oasis didn't make even a slightly comparable cultural and musical impact as Nirvana. Not even in the same galaxy.

I'm American and think they're about even. Both had two amazing albums and a meh album in like a 4 year run

In my grand opinion

>Nirvana

Yeah they made a few good hits and Kurt was a seemingly good guy that got caught up in a media life that he didn’t want, although I have a feeling deep down he did actually want to become really rich and famous because if he didn’t why would he make pop rock songs in the first place, other than that id rate him a 6/10 if he didn’t have the retarded fan base that would also help but that’s out of his control

>Oasis
I really really want to like this band, though problem is they’re just massive twats, they never cared about the music and even Liam himself has said he just wanted to get really rich and famous and be a rockstar. In my opinion that makes him abit of a cock, though Noel I think isn’t much better, I think he’s more of a humble guy. On the music though, I think it’s unbelievably overrated and a product of its time, I’m not saying you can’t make good music with the basic chords but it just idk seemed abit shit to me.

That’s my shitty opinion

Have you ever heard of husker du and pixies?

Oh and I forgot to say, I think non of them are really that good and I don’t think their is a winner, though if I really had to pick it say nirvana but that’s my own prejudice because my dad used to listen to Oasis and he was abusive towards me so I always associate them with abuse unintentionally

>Oasis didn't make even a slightly comparable cultural and musical impact as Nirvana. Not even in the same galaxy.
Here they are in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which is in our galaxy, in 2009, a full decade and a half after their peak popularity.
Meanwhile, Kurt Cobain was nursing a bit of a headache while Dave Grohl was making shit PooFighters records while being mogged by Josh Homme.

Now fuck off.

I kinda agree that Kurt definitely wanted to be famous even though he'd never say it. That was just part of the scene that he was in where I think he was always afraid of being called a sellout by the people he respected. He said in an interview that the goal for Nirvana was to combine Black Sabbath and the Beatles and I think he got about as close to that as was possible

Oh boy the English have arrived

Oasis > Nirvana

Archers Of Loaf

>Noel Gallagher explained that "At the time . . . it was written in the middle of grunge and all that, and I remember Nirvana had a tune called 'I Hate Myself and Want to Die', and I was like . . . 'Well, I'm not fucking having that.' As much as I fucking like him [Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain] and all that shit, I'm not having that. I can't have people like that coming over here, on smack, fucking saying that they hate themselves and they wanna die. That's fucking rubbish. Kids don't need to be hearing that nonsense." While Gallagher has stated he did not intend "Live Forever" as a direct retort to Nirvana or their music (being a professed fan of the band), he contrasted the lives of Cobain and his band at that point, saying, "Seems to me that here was a guy who had everything, and was miserable about it. And we had fuck-all, and I still thought that getting up in the morning was the greatest fuckin' thing ever, 'cause you didn't know where you'd end up at night. And we didn't have a pot to piss in, but it was fucking great, man".

I think the answer is clear here.

I used to think this but what do you think the people who listen to oasis do when they get sad? They hide their feeling under the blanket of “AH WELL R KID THATS LIYFE INNIT”

And that’s a really unhealthy mentality

Well Noel also didn't have bipolar disorder did he? So I think that's kind of an ignorant thing for him to say

Nirvana > oasis confirmed

>being a professed fan of the band

And Kurt is dead and Noel is alive. Crazy innit?
Many people have dipolar disorder and don't kill themselves. Kurt was a junkie.

Oasis is shite and only wannabes listen to them

thats not even blur

thats not even alice in chains

based

this proves you where not around in the 90s if you have to ask this question

Oasis were never relevant.

>And that's the most basic grunge band
