I didn't like this album one bit. It's too centered around the ( very much warped) idiosyncrasies of one guy. Later PF albums are, at least, about something, not just a guy's (messy) thought process. Another album that made a similar impression on me is "Rock bottom" by Wyatt.

Have you ever checked out The Soft Boys.
Their first album, A Can of Bees sounds like what would happen if Syd stayed in the band, but they decided to jump on the punk bandwagon. Almost like a punk version of Piper. (Better than I'm describing it)
