>Neoperreo
wtf... Why not just call it reggaeton and call it a day? Right. Because you need to feel special about what you listen to.
RYM just made up another genre AGAIN

it's good for searching for music and rating stuff, but that's it
the people on there are pretentious and insufferable nerds

Complete list of bullshit made-up rym genres:
- industrial techno
- conscious hip hop
- dark jazz
- glitch?
- whatever OP's shit is
Please help me build this list anons
lobit
What a stupid fucking name for anything let alone an entire fake genre
>conscious hip hop
i always thought this was the same as political hip-hop, is there a difference i am not aware of?
Who are you to say conscious hip hop is not a genre
And how the fuck is glitch not a genre
art-[genre] is by far the worst one. losers on RYM want to pretend their favorite music is somehow above the shit on the radio when it's literally no different
"Glitch" always describes of usage of quick repetition of the same sounds, instead of the actual textures of what's being "glitched". It's only maybe an inclusion to the list, but it seems pretty pointless to me.
Art-rock has some differences, mainly that it usually includes a strings section, but I never saw the point of art punk.
neoperro
Dude glitch means Oval, Alva Noto, Ryoji Ikeda. It's actually ALL texture, what are you talking about
yeah its more of an accent to the music rather than a description of the sound
music can use glitches, but its weird to call anything that does "glitch", its like inventing a genre called "sax" where the saxophone is used
i wish user, its constantly stapled onto albums and music that just utilizes glitches
it SHOULD just be ryoji ikeda buts its not (according to RYM that is)
Bubblegum bass
Deconstructed club
Trap metal
Tread
Weightless
Funkot
also this

I know what it means, 94diskont is one of my all time favourite albums. It's just an electronic ambient album with a lot of repetition, doesn't deserve its own genre. Ikeda is mostly microsound. There's plenty of other 'glitch' albums that sound nothing like these, and use samples from classical music or jazz.
This list seems pretty legit to me (except Endless Summer is more of an ambient record tho)

>he hasn't listened to at least 100 Neoperreo songs and a dozen albums
how embarrassing
>pretentious and insufferable
this would be cut by at least 80% if all trannies were eradicated as they should be
Agree with most of those except Bubblegum Bass, what else would you call albums that are currently classified as that?
the first paragraph says this genre is about the people who invented it wanting to promote a certain kind of culture but the second paragraph is about how any music with a certain type of already very popular beat is neoperreo so which is it? if there's some kind of conflict over what this music represents why not say so instead of putting two contradictory statements right beside each other
glitch music is glitch music because of the process and how it is made
btw the people promoting thus genre are the same people that were pushing for the musique concrete tag on Fetch the Bolt Cutters
"Bubblegum bass" is a term infamously coined by RYM user ~ukrayf and then submitted by him as a new genre, which led to a lengthy debate over approving it. It's literally made up by RYM. The name was never used before that and isn't really used outside of the site.
also forgot
>Zolo
yeah it always smelled like yet another excretion of the "gender folk"
Footwork is also bullshit, along with every psytrance subgenre
This pains me to know. That combination of words will never again come out of my mouth or fingertips.
Yep.
ok but let's say that there wasn't really a suitable term for that music and RYM solved the problem with an aptly named and described term. I have no problem with that
But this? What is one good reason why this "neoperreo" shouldn't be just tagged reggaeton?
Zolo is the most annoying music I have ever listened to its like a quarantine genre
yeah, what the fuck is this?
rateyourmusic.com
Folktronica is bullshit and sounds fucking stupid
>ukrayf
*I think it might have actually been ~nonochanel, now called ~hugdeserver. They all formed a cabal so it's hard to remember.
This is one of those genres that was being developed that didn't have a good name attached, so they just named it whatever. Spotify's word for this is currently "hyperpop", I've heard that being thrown around elsewhere too. Obviously most people just call it PC Music in real life, I'm sure there's a very nerdy reason why RYM didn't call it that. But it's definitely a genre.
Post-Metal
Tread
Freestyle
Trap Metal
these are all real im sure
>Bubblegum bass
rateyourmusic seems to absolutely completely lose their shit over this genre and I have no idea why. PC Music is a label that does this kind of music but on this site it seems to have gotten completely blown out of proportion on this site
>Deconstructed Club
honestly just seems like an attempt to group together varying types of experimental electronic music for the bandcamp/twitter/tumblr generation under one umbrella
>trap metal
this is kind of a genre but its just modern trap with rappers shouting isnt it really
>tread
never heard of it, sounds like trap with a bit of memphis rap. not really a genre is it
>weightless
tunes that sound like "anime grime" which is the real name, absolutely no one in real life calls it fucking "weightless"
>funkot
this is genuinely a real genre and quite popular in japan as well as indonesia.
youtube.com
rateyourmusic can be a fucking joke sometimes, it took them like 10 years to finally recognise Easycore (pop punk + breakdowns) was a genre, even though there was a fully established scene and even a fucking festival dedicated to the sound.
also the fact sewerslvt is the highest voted atmospheric drum and bass release in only a matter of months is quite telling about the rateyourmusic's user-base. great album, but its clearly popular for its aesthetic and liberal friendly depression themes
What's wrong with footwork wtf
Maybe you're mad that juke and footwork aren't combined? What would you call it instead
