not his best album but great song
I don’t think he’s that underrated really but he’s outside of the same 25 jazz musicians that usually get posted in these threads and deserves some love.
Kenny Wheeler
I know Kirk is quite well known but I rarely see him discussed and this ong in particular is definitely worth a listen youtube.com
Good pick
Bump because p4k spam is burying every other thread
Donald Byrd’s Quintet from the 60’s, and Pepper Adams in particular, are criminally underrated
I don't know what to say about it other than the fact that it's a great album with a formidable lineup.
Good rec, this is why I keep coming back to these threads
Clifford Brown is well known among Jazz heads, but he's shamefully overlooked by your average casual listener. I live the way he glides over the notes. His flow is second to none.
Jazz musicians from the 30’a loved dying in car crashes more than od’ing, I swear
*by from I mean born in
You were about twice as likely to die in a car accident the year Clifford Brown died. 22 people per mil compared to 11 today.

*And that's not even taking into account the fact that we drive much more today
Plus all those dudes were driving between Philly and Chicago overnight between shows, or up and down California, in cars with no power steering and highways with no lights. It’s a miracle we on out lost the ones we did.
Imagine if Doug Watkins and Scott Lefaro played into their 70’s. Bass might be a different instrument today

I wonder what directions he would have gone in the 60s. It would be interesting to hear him get more out.
Who are some other jazz artists (especially pianists) who have a noticeable classical influence to their playing?
Ken McIntyre is underrated
Listen to the piano on this
Don't see many people post about Grant Green's classic Visions very often. A fantastic guitar jazz album if anyone would be interested.
some kept the tradition living in the OD years
I’m not a huge criss cross guy but tim warfield is always satisfying to listen to
