How many of you genuinely didn't know who Fiona Apple was until now?
How many of you are listening to this without having heard anything she has put out in the past?
How many of you genuinely didn't know who Fiona Apple was until now?
I listened to her 2012 album a few years ago
it was boring and unmemorable
Never even heard her name desu
Seems that she was raped when she was 12
It is by far her worst album, so that's not surprising.
I knew who she was but this was the first album of hers I've listened to
Have all her previous albums, didn't listen to them much though as they were only ok. Was trying to find an artist similar to Mirah and she wasn't it.
Check out Dear Nora.
I knew about her for the longest time, actually even remember watching Criminal on MTV when it had just come out, but never really got into her music.
Luckily this year I got really into Tidal, The Pawn and The Idler before she announced her new album. When she announced it I was happy with the timing
I had heard of her but never listened to her, listening to the new one right now and its alright
Just found out about her.
Skipped fastly through her discography in the last 5 minutes. 4-chord progression, soft singing, strange album titles. That's what it is to me.
It's beyond me how someone can have two flawless albums, a great one (the leaked version of Extraordinary Machine), a meh one (official version of Extraordinary Machine) and then two shitty ones in a row. Her next one is just going to be incomprehensible screeching at this rate.
Anybody who didn't know about her or hadn't listened to her until now needs to leave this board immediately. Fucking dumbass zoomers.
like look at this faggot. none of that is accurate.
Thanks user.
Tidal is garbage and everything else she's done is great
Clearly there aren't enough Jon Brion fans left around here.
lol im 30 i was familiar with the name fiona apple but never actually listened to her ever. her biggest hit apparently is criminal and hearing it, i dont recognize it.
Fuck off. Tidal is great.
I like her later stuff but if thats how you feel its because she stopped working with jon brion. His influence is very strong on those albums that you mention liking.
Yeah, I know who Jon Brion is. lol.
i've listened all her albums, they are always very good, even great, but the only one that really stuck with me was the idler wheel
Who is fiona apple?
Then why even ask the question that you did? He is the answer.
That guy sucks
I'm sorry for you
Insane that you would admit to "skipping vastly" through a whole discography and deliver a take as if you listened in a way that doesn't invalidate everything you say
If you see only basic structures its valid to just skip through all that drivel. Sometimes it doesnt deserve any more than that.
She's an average musician who has bought a massive ad campaign about six months ago so everyone would talk about her again. That's it.
He isn't. He produced two of her albums. A lot more people were involved than just him, dummy.
small brain take
I've heard the name around indie preppy "Sad music for happy people" groups but not even I know what's happening nor when mu became a Fiona dick riding brigade
Seems like around sometime last year the 16 year olds who hangout on RYM discovered her.
filtered
hahaha Holy fuck.
You say you like the leaked version of Extraordinary Machine otherwise know as the Jon Brion version so gonna have to disagree. His style is blatantly obvious on those albums. If you're familiar with Brion's work you could listen to those albums and tell he was involved without knowing beforehand.
Why would I listen to boring post arcade fire indie pop when I have arcade fire who has better themes?
You sensed wrong moron
its funny how she gets such little talk on Yas Forums compared to other songwriters of her caliber (bush, bjork, newsom)
then FTBC comes out and gets rave reviews and sends the p4k drones into a frothing-at-the-mouth fury about the legitimacy of her career and talent.
i've been listening to fiona since i was 7 years old when tidal came out and i'll listen to her until i die, this album fucks.
I’d listened to Tidal and liked most of the songs on it (still have shadowboxer in rotation) but never really listened to anything else she made
Might give this a listen today but probably not as I still have to listen to a shit ton of other albums
Never heard of her and I won't break my Porcupine Tree marathon to listen to her.
based
I wish Steven Wilson would just not sing. Albums would be much better
Calling me a faggot convinced me to give this another try.
Do you really live in this world inside your head?
A:"I won't shoot up a school."
B (You):"I bet you're chicken. CHEEP CHEEP CHEEP CHEEP."
A:"Alread, Imma do it."
I did the same with Death Grips and it fucking CLICKED immediately. Just because you don't validate my opinion, doesn't mean that it's not right. Come on. Listen to my fucking discography you hypocrite and then make a review about it. I dare you I double dare you!
That is just rude.
I like his voice. Not the greatest, but it's honest, it feels genuine, he uses the very little he has in his voice to the most, like a teenager who sings campfire songs with his friends and truly loves music.
I'm in 1998 now, going to listen to Stupid Dream when I finish Metatonia.
