Is he the most influential musician of the past decade?
The whole sound and aesthetic of "cutting edge" artists like 100 Gecs, Bladee, PC Music crew etc. can all be traced back to shit he was doing in the early 10s.
James Ferraro
yes
He's pretty fucking rad.
Yes
probably desu
unironically agreed.
hes the sgp of internet pop
No, post ironic aesthetics were pioneered by Ariel Pink, as much as we all hate to admit it. He, M.I.A., and OPN are all pretty high up there, though.
Dean Blunt is better
but ariel pink is white, so no
nah. hes good, but ferraro has a ton more to dig into with alot more variety
>what is hype williams
still no
>what is 90210, Bodyguard, Clams, Edward Flex, Excel, The Grass Magic, Heavens Burst Creation Horizonz, Lamborghini Crystal, Rat Fantasy, The Skaters, The Temple Defectors, Way of the Cross, 8pashupatinath, Acid Eagle, Angel Snake, Arecaceae, Avatar Salad, Bebetune$, Composition of the Sensibilities of Melted Knowledge, Cruisin' the Nightbiker Strip 1977, D.M.T., The Draculas, Dreams, Grapes, Jim Ferraro, K2, Keyhole Voyeur, Liquid Metal, Menstrual Chinese Dream, Newage Panther Mistique, Nirvana, Pacific Rat Temple Band, Pan als Allgott Saturnia, 1977, Pan Dolphinic Dawn, Peyote Cactus Rituals, Peyote Way, Purple Gongs, Sky-Mirrorbalm in Preparation for Deja Vu, Snake Figures Fan, Splash, Symbio Dome, Teotihuacán, User703918785, The Wooden Cupboard
no he sucks and hasn't released anything listenable or remotely interesting
anyone not a fan of his newer stuff? i mean it's not bad but i miss the more outlandish stuff he used to make
youre boring
no I'm not, I have better taste than you
prove it
Crazy over-rated by a certain type that will grow out of it.
I listen to Holger Hiller or Nobukazu Takemura when I want to hear something interesting, not fucking James Ferraro
I genuinely really love how many genres and personalities he has in different albums. They are all extremely different, hacker track, last american hero, heavens gate, human story 3, far side virtual, god of london, cold, and all of these are by the same guy.
The guy has very strong potential. He needs to practice more and create better albums, i support him.
i mean those are pretty good artists too but OP specified the 10s
his God of London is on the same level as Little Present
Speaking of boring, have you listened to James Ferraro's music?
yes
Ferraro is more talked about than heard, a persona completely unrooted in substance, and a fucking chore to listen to. You only think he is noteworthy now because some publicist has told you they are, and you, fulfilling your obligation as part of the publicity engine that drives the music industry, spurt about them on cue. Same can be said about vaporwave
how the fuck does he only have 17.000 listeners on spotify? i thought he'd have atleast like half a mil. huh
good and definitely influenced a certain level of irony- and post irony / metamodernism? into music. hes the reason shit like "old town road" is possible but hes not on the same level of culture importance as ferraro
but looking at the true zoomercore wave thats blowing up right now-- Reptilian Club Boyz, Gecs-- and all their desciples, Alice Gas, shit like Yungster Jack, etc.. its all cause of Ferraro. i unitonically think hes the most important artist of that decade
ariel pink influenced some late 00s and early 10s hypnagogic pop bands but whatd he do beyong that? his influence certainly doesnt extend to any current trends
MIA influenced somer early-mid 10s p4k pop women of color pop. and some of the internet-y aesthetics influenced shit in the early 10s but i dont see how she remotely relevant now
OPN i feel basically has just ridden trends. what did he even pioneer? hes just been doing whatever is cool with electronic music at the time he releases shit
tbf. james ferraro is good about talking about his own work. hes able to make it seem believably important cause hes talking in Nick Land-ish Fischer-ian terms about late capitalism. and seems to genuinely understand complex philosophical ideas and cultural theory and applies it to his music.
John Cage is the same way. hes more talked about than heard. but that doesnt mean he wasnt THE most important musician of the 20th century
did you start this thread cause you saw my comment in the capoxxo/ zoomercore thread? i made this exact statement
so many different names is hard to keep track off
i agree. but his music itself is dogshit
its just really good ideas but executed poorly
>hes talking in Nick Land-ish Fischer-ian terms about late capitalism. and seems to genuinely understand complex philosophical ideas and cultural theory and applies it to his music.
it's a bunch of vacuous blather though, don't compare that to John Cage
Far Side Virtual gives me unsettling vibes for some reason.
