How did Bowie and Iggy do it?

it also invented New Order
Bowie was an inside job.
They were both based
Iggy really didn’t like this album, this was just Bowie making music through Iggy. It was also playing on the record player when they found Ian’s body. Tbh I own it and feel it’s overrated, cool piece of music history but later musicians made this sound come together.
I think it's fantastic still, I wonder how much of the songs were more Bowie in terms of lyrics than Iggy since it's said that they wrote it together. But it's amazing how he made this since it wasn't like anything he ever made before and was so innovative for post punk, in a lot of ways what Low was too. Fucking genius
This, the Low and Heroes make a better trilogy together I think and The Idiot seems a nice transition piece between station to station and low.
I think Station - The Idiot - Low is what it's all about because Station was the fucking nightmare you know while Low and the Idiot was about the aftermath of all that trauma, how it's uplifting sounding and simplistic but there's an undeniable presence of sadness
Heroes to me was about Bowie kind of blossoming into something else, people compare it to Low all the time but I think Station is more connected than Heroes is
Given how theres footage of sister midnight being rehearsed for the isolar tour seems that one atleast is almost all bowie except for a couple of lyrics maybe. Sometimes I wonder how that one would have looked on Station to Station.
I think my main problem with It is that it sounds too crisp and cold for Iggys life affirming and strong vocal style. Recordings of the time were all very warm and raw. The synths and stuff were all new and a unique approach but because of that I feel like Bowie was a stronger songwriter on guitar.
I think I may have seen that though I'll check it out but I don't know if you are arsed about Ian Curtis/Joy Division but there's a live performance of that song where Iggy Dances: youtube.com
That's totally where Ian got that from, people call it "the epilepsy dance" but it's 100% Iggy Pop
>this was just Bowie making music through Iggy.
Well, that explains why it's his only good solo album
It's kind of isolated from the rest of Iggy's work and I bet Lust for Life is what he was more looking for in the end and you raise a good point. Though him singing on Mass Production is incredible
I kind of see that. I was more thinking in terms of the music style. Out of the 4 albums considered station to station really does stick out on that front
Uncanny resemblence in the dancing. Can we be sure Ian even saw that though if it was an American tv show? Guess he could have seen it live too actually.
Heres the sister midnight
youtu.be
I think that's how he danced before but I'm not sure
That sister midnight footage is strange
Ian Curtis copyed Jim Morrison not Iggy Pop you dummy
Dum Dum Boys has the greatest guitar riff ever.
Prove me wrong.
No Iggy was his biggest hero, Morrison was definitely important to him but he idolised Iggy the most

t. zoomer who knows absolutely nothing about music history
Lust for Life is excellent though
LOL. This thread was always going to trigger the Cult of Saint Ian.

>that tinny production
The songs are great, but the finished item is far from excellent.
Lust for Life is fun, and there are a few great songs on it. But IMO, it isn't in the same league as The Idiot, Raw Power, or Funhouse.
Think the Idiot is severely overrated. The tunes just aint that good and even if their electronic aesthetic is mildly interesting, its not really interesting enough compared to say Low. The Idiot very much feels like Bowies trial run for Low which was recorded straight afterwards it seems.
I find The Idiot great. It took longer to click, but the songs are both emotional and stark. I think it's a beautiful album. It's not as experimental or diverse as Low, but I actually like it better than Low, though I don't enjoy it nearly as much as "Heroes."
Which track do you think Ian killed himself to? I like to think he sat through the whole thing at least
i expect tony wilson has milked the accounts of it abit.
I do like the atmosphere and starkness its just the songwriting isnt good enough on most of the tracks for them to be among my most appraised albums, though I do like listening to it. Sounds obscene but if i were to remake the album, I think only Sister Midnight, Nightclubbing and Baby would make it unchanged. China girl, tiny girls, funtime would be tossed without question though I do like some of the instrumentation on funtime.
>The Idiot very much feels like Bowies trial run for Low
literally what it was
Lets be honest, it was mostly Bowie
You better not touch Mass Production
user, just stop.
China Girl knocks Bowie's version into a cocked hat, and Funtime is literally Iggy's most underrated track.
