The actual black metal (not symphonic) is listened by same guys who listen death and thrash. Even the fests that have bm bands, have dm bands and more extreme wing of old school thrash. It only makes sense, because both genres, dm and bm, have been evolved from thrash. Usually these guys dress like average metal head. Long hair/full bald with combat boots, leather jacket and black jeans or army pants. (Those bald guys are usually gymchads, not real-life wojaks.) If somebody wears corpse paint, it's usually by girlfriends of these guys on gig or few nerds, who do it for fun on gig. Corpse paint is the performer thing, and even those guys don't do it outside performance, just like they don't speak with guttural/shrieked vocals outside performance either. If average metal clothing/style is cringeworthy, I don't get who would listen any subgenre of metal.
While I'm actually writing this, I'm thinking, did you actually mix extreme metal fans with goths? Goth rock isn't even metal, what the fuck.
