Nah, id rather have it stay off the radar like it is now. I hated it when it was "hip" and all the retarded Simpsons "vaporwave" edits were a thing and the genre was just treated as a meme (inb4 implying its not a meme genre) or a specific kind of aesthetic like synth wave.

gay

No. It needs to end.

Any good ambient vaporwave? The vapor aesthetic puts me to sleep already but I want some dissociative ass shit

dubbi brought it back

youtu.be/F9L4q-0Pi4E If you haven't listened to this already by now. Also listen to telepath and HKE's other works, they're the best ambient artists in the scene.

it's still out there

Has any other genre got away with just making the exact same song every time like vaporwave did?

Hip Hop, rock, jazz etc....

Isn't it strange how retroactively optimistic vaporwave sounds?

these threads should really be us slowing down country music

vaporwave is generally ambivalence evoked from the minutiae of capitalism's naivete

>vaporwave is generally ambivalence evoked from the minutiae of capitalism's naivete
I wouldn't say early vaporwave reflects this. Later vaporwave for sure, but early vaporwave still sounds pretty anticapitalist to my ears because of its haunting-ness. I feel like the later stuff like Telepath is more interested in that naivete and even sublime that you're talking about.

Preggo Grimes best Grimes.

Nobody has done anything new with vaporwave for a while. ecco jams did the slowed and screwed thing and it spawned an infinite amount of clones. Blank banshee did the trap thing. Saint pepsi did the disco thing, HKE did the ambient thing. i'm not saying there won't be a good vaporwave album again but the window for fresh ideas within the genre seems to grow narrower and narrower as the years go on and everything just sounds like something that came before it!

some favorites:
Death's Dynamic Shroud - I'll Try Living Like This
Telepath - 向かい合って
2814 - Birth of a New Day
New Deluxe Life - Liberated From the World
Giant Claw - Soft Channel

fuck, ignore DDS and Giant Claw, I didn't see the word "ambient" in your post. the others are either ambient or noisey

literally every kind of music sounds like the music that came before it

this album is virtually sleep medication

All of them

Congrats, you've discovered genre.

its still going its just not a meme anymore, dream catalogue is good and theres a lot of bandcamp artists still active

Anybody else really mad at Dream Catalogue for destroying what was the go to Vaporwave label to a shitty horrible bad music label with no identity? Im properly assmad about it

It started off as a critique of capitalism (as is pretty inherent in plunderphonics) but grew to a more neutral, ironically distant indulgence in consumerism. Stuff like Mallsoft isn't actively criticizing late capitalism. It's more like a nostalgic appeal to how life felt back before 9/11: simpler and more optimistic, but ultimately empty. Any anticapitalist interpretations are left up to the listener.

all this VAPORWAVE IS DEAD nonsense is funny. was it ever alive? or is it just the ghost of plunderphonics? meanwhile im outcheer tryna evoke notions of a virtual countryside - the less you city slickers on my farm the better
