no you provide proof
Classical is boring and soulless.
who cares
I like modern music, therefore it compares
I don't compare music in general, there is no need to when I like something from every time period.
modern music is more classical than classical
Classical has no electrical guitars, therefore it is inferior.
who cares, music is not a competition and comparing two distinct genres is useless
You're talking to people who think soundcloud rap is music
Yeah modern is much better
agreed, art with 400 years worth of cultural difference usually can't be meaningfully compared, at least not 1:1
Classical music is outdated. More complex ≠ good music.
Is this soiboy hour
underage user
HA HA HA HA I HAVE NO ARGUMENT SO I'LL JUST CALL EVERYONE SOI HAHAHAHAHAAHHAAH
>If you don't listen to my shitty nigger music you must be underage
There are modern genres besides hip-hop...
I mean OP is literally right. Classical composers didn’t have control of things like reverb, tone, mixing, EQ, splicing audio, etc., or access to all global styles of music, or even things we take for granted like film that can bring new meaning or inspirations to music. Classical music is much more technically challenging because it is much more restricted. Modern music gives access to way more tools, which lets you choose how much importance you place on what. Hell guys like Mozart were criticized for being overly indulged in feeling and not paying enough attention simplicity and technicality.
go back there
what you are doing it's literally comparing them
lol ok thats why they had they options of trios and quartets and full fucking orchestras - because they had no control of volume, reverberation, mixing.. .
all left up to chance
cmon - the orchestra situation is the solution to these technical problems for their age
Yes it is. But words can have different meanings and I am using the word compare the same way everyone else is using it in this thread
Idk if they did it as a solution or if it’s simply just the natural progress of needing to find ways to keep things interesting. They had control to some degree over those things, but we are capable of getting the most subtle dismal tones out of a guitar or string instruments, where they could not. Before the piano was a thing, everyone used instruments like the Harpischord as the standard musical instrument, which doesn’t even allow control over the volume of notes. Their idea of music was centered around their limitations of the time.
It was illegal to write music that had perfect 5ths and 4ths bc they forsake musical voicing, where we can control the audio itself to where that’s not a problem. Things they hated or liked in music don’t always apply to us bc the world that created some of those preferences literally doesn’t exist anymore
You're describing yourself, not the music.
Not only is it musically and compositionally more complex and musically infinitely more interesting, it's also philosophically deeper and aesthetically more pleasing. Try again.
huh?
Sorry that was a trainwreck. Let me try again
1) They had minor control over those elements at the time.
2) The music they created followed standards that inevitably are linked to their limitations.
3) Their ideas don’t really apply to us these days. One example is the absolute taboo of using Consecutive 4ths and 5ths, because it causes the individual parts to lose their voicing. These days that is a problem that can be fixed by messing with the tone of an instrument or the mixing. Or also things like the absence of microphones which required them to sing in that stereotypical opera voice which lets you project as loudly as possible. Today microphones and good studio equipment allow us to do many more things that were just not option for them
5) classical music becomes interesting because it is now a specialty that focuses heavily on doing a lot with a limited amount of tools. If you care about technical musical shit, it’ll be a lot more interesting than if you don’t because that’s a huge part of the culture and appeal
Messed up talking and now I can’t count either, god damn I might be retarded bro
Lads, can anybody give a classical newfag suggestions for big pieces. Big crescendo, 1812 overture, Valkyries kinda shit.
