Nevermind or Ten?

Nevermind has that unbelievably good three song opening then hits Breed, which is a pretty good noisy pop rock song, then Lithium a very simple heavy catchy tune that I don't hate, then Polly which I've grown to not like much, it's an OK change of pace after all the heavy rocking and screaming, then Territorial Pissings which is just a fun thrashing punk song crazy that it's on this mega popular album though, then finally another actually really good song with Drain You with that great Sonic Youth inspired instrumental bridge, followed by Lounge Act a straight forward but excellently written alt rock song, then Stay Away another basically lazy punk rock thrasher, then On a Plain a pretty good catchy song but clearly not as good as the first three songs on the album, then Something In the Way a great gentle closer to the album if you didn't have a copy with Endless, Nameless on it before it was a regular bonus track with the album, a totally insane grinding straight up noise rock song on a multi platinum record that I do enjoy a bit.

Nevermind is an album with about 5 excellent songs and a bunch of other songs that fit the feel of the album but don't amaze me. Ten on the other hand is all killer no filler without a song that I would want to skip. Jeremy, Black, Alive, and Even Flow are probably the best songs on the album but Once, Why Go, Oceans, Porch, Garden, Deep, and Release are all very good songs that I would gladly listen to by themselves outside of the context of the album.

But I take Nirvana overall over Pearl Jam because Nirvana had a little album after Nevermind called In Utero and Pearl Jam NEVER put together another even decent album after Ten, which is really sad when you think about it.

I've heard every Pearl Jam album after Ten and it's just a wasteland with a few great songs sprinkled throughout that refreshingly sound nothing like Ten.

Man I agree with you 100%.

Ten is an absolutely incredible album and every song is outstanding. I go back to it constantly and never tire of it. But yes, the rest of PJ's discography fucking sucks.

Honestly I don't really like it. It's so stripped down. It's literally the soul vs soulless meme in reality. I appreciate the much louder bass as a bass player but I prefer the original mix, and weirdly I heard the Redux version first (I didn't start listening to music until I was 16 which is around when that came out).

mu kids think both are overrated but they're both great for different reasons. Everyone knows in utero is the better album but the cultural impact of nevermind was unbelievable. That being said if you throw on your local rock station you'll hear 80% of ten during the work day.
