I think I'm genuinely getting worse at music and production in general, I have no idea what to do or where to go anymore and being stuck with my annoying ass family in quarantine every day is really fucking with me.

(yes I made this thread just to post this stop letting /prod/ die faggots)

unlikely user, we all have our ups and downs when it comes to our production. Not even the best can crank out quality songs every time they lay their hands on a pc.

also your track was pretty dope

i made shit for like 4 months before i snapped out of it, i realized i was trying to build songs in the same way over and over because i was being too lazy to think creatively

im fuckin lazy bros i wont make it

I just feel like I've been out of it. My replacement laptop is supposed to finally come today though so I can use u-he synths again and I think I want to attempt to make something that's like a cross between Akiko Yano's Tadaima and Die Lit.

what genre is this supposed to be exactly? I mean no offense when I say it reminds me of 2012.

thank you, you too.

reminder harmony, melody, song structure and selection of sounds are far more important to the quality of music than mixing and knob twiddling

it both is. Badly mixed great music is like a fantastic dinner that's missing salt

>i was being too lazy to think creatively
I don't even know if I can think creatively anymore. My brain is fucking fried. I just follow routine. Follow protocol. I feel like its detrimental to feel like you always need to be
''creative" and different but maybe thats just me attempting to justify mental retardation.

>sound selection
This is what I struggle with the most. I have no real instruments and only use DAW presets and free VSTs and I'm not sure what to do about it

Thoughts on the Telefunken THP-29? I just started producing a few months ago and now I want to buy a decent headphone which is good for tracking, producing and mixing/mastering as well (so basically everything). I intend to mix on those only until I can afford a proper monitor set .

pirate some good ones

syntorial worked wonders with that for me

Learn synthesis and get familiar with a synth. Which DAW do you use?

Logic pro x.
I'm actually using syntorial right now. What synth VST did you use to apply what you learned from syntorial? I'm having trouble distinguishing saw waves from pulse waves sometimes as well as how many semi tones apart the two synths are which is a little discouraging.

>What synth VST did you use to apply what you learned from syntorial
serum and the arturia synth collection

just have patience, it's a long journey

any way i can make Ableton use more of my CPU?
60% of Abletons render will use about 12% of my CPU.

how can i force it to boost higher than 4.2?

>he’s one year younger than me
How?

Could someone help me out with some basics please: I use Reaper and record Guitar via an Interface into it (using the Line 6 UX1). If I install PlugIns and put them on my recorded tracks it works just fine. If I now write some MIDI track in Reaper and want the same PlugIn to play the midi notes with the e guitar Amp sound it just does nothing? So what exactly seperates VSTis that can handle MIDI tracks from those Amp simulators which obviously can't. What do I have to do if I want a written MIDI track to be played by a VSTi, which PlugIn do I need? Thanks Anons.

Amp synths take in MIDI, but just for control of parameters, not to play notes. Amp sims are VST Effects, not VSTi (VST Instruments).

VST Instruments are things like synths and samplers, and modelling instruments like modelled pianos and orchestral sounds and guitars. This is what takes MIDI note data and produces audio that can be routed through a VST effect like an amp sim.

>Amp sims take in MIDI

Sorry, fixed

Idk what genre is suppose to be, i just threw my three favorite genres together classical, HipHip and bass music. It was started as a mixing exercise and I've been fiddling with it to pass time during this quarantine

Can I get some feedback on this?

vocaroo.com/ifZ9D42Mat0

Midi is not sound, it is just instructions for synths and other virtual instruments. A digital amp is just an effect for sound, it does not generate anything from midi. You might want to try some free vst synth like synth1 and run that through you effect chain.

wish i could beat it into my head that there are no shortcuts to success, downloading plugin after plugin and connecting random shit together in vcv isn't going to help me at all

I don't know if this is the place to ask but can I plug a Japanese synth into a US wall socket or do I need a voltage converter?

Thanks guys

I guess everyone is good and bad at certain things. I really like the sounds I come up with but i struggle the most with arranging them. Im stuck in loop hell.

no but you can get super good at making sounds that way if you approach it with intention

Do you maybe know some free E Guitar VSTi ? I just found one for Bass guitar (Ample Bass P II Lite). I tried what you told me and get remotely to a e guitar sound (using Reaper stock synth and some effects) but it's hard for a beginner to actually produce some proper e guitar sound using this method.

Tips for someone barely getting into recording?
How can I make this sound better in my daw?

The Ample electric guitars are pretty decent but no free ones unfortunately, you'd need to look on rutracker for one if you're not set on paying.

DSK make all sorts of (not great really but free) VST instruments and they do have an electric guitar that might get you working as a temporary solution, but as said they're pretty poor, have a look at the page and see if it'll do in the short term:

Is there anything that comes close to Logic in terms of looks? I really like the ui but dont want to buy a mac.

thanks again mate

Is this live instrumentation or vst?
