John Lennon was a great musician but a complete prick with a temper problem.
He sings about peace and love yet abused his family, he shouted so loud in his son's ear that it permanently deafened him in that ear.

Because despite decades of all 4 Beatles saying "We had problems before Yoko, it wasn't her fault", people find it easier to blame her for it because her and John happened to fall in love during a transitional period in his career. Maybe they think it's a better story than the idea that John and Paul (and George to a lesser extent) had outgrown each other and had developed too large of egos to want to continue compromising.

Why? There's nothing wrong with listening to friendly top 40 music, I like a lot of it myself. Yoko doesn't make work for that audience, and even when she went more pop in the 80s it still wasn't for them. Not everything has to be for your little bubble :)

I think it all stems from the fact that John was so insistent on using his platform to promote Yoko's own music. The over-exposure is what murdered her reputation more than any thing she ever actually did. I guarantee if John hadn't pushed her so hard and dragged her around everywhere, people would still dislike her music but not have such a personal hatred for it, and probably not for her as a result.
