Certain genres have specifically cringe fanbases, which is why i said punk and metal are very similar, in that they are both like this.

Every genre is the same in this regard. There are people entrenched in it who love, know, and respect it, and there are newcomers who are learning about it, and then there are people who don't care about it but are trying to exploit it/capitalize off it.

Gatekeeping in itself is not an "evil" thing and only a complete jackass would ever think so, the problem is people who aren't qualified to to so try to, but that's a personal problem. If any culture no matter how significant or insignificant is to be preserved, gatekeeping is necessary. Requiring people to have a drivers license is "gatekeeping" people from driving automobiles. Requiring people to have money is "gatekeeping" people from taking goods from a store. "Gatekeeping" is part of society.

Im just saying, punk and metal fans have this autistic argument on whats "true" metal or punk, and no other genre has that shit to such a degree that makes them as insufferable as that.
