It and the culture around it have musical elements far more conducive to socialization within a commercial society than any form of western music, as such they have completely replaced western music, and through that culture. It's more than anything else counter-western. The popularity of Armstrong and Ellington did not create new forms of western music, bu the execution of it. With it America ceased to be western, and after WWI, the world followed.
