No one cared back then. Until 2017 no one gave a flying fuck what musicians did or who they fucked in their private lives. Then all at once, musicians started getting #CANCELLED over shit they did years or even decades ago that had already been addressed. I guess it came out of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. Which then got turned into a witchhunt where any male celebrity who had done anything sexually inappropriate in their entire life became a pariah overnight.
I'm quite confident that if Bowie for instance had have lived just 2 more years, he would currently be "cancelled" because he fucked teens in the 70s. But because he died before it became the cool thing to do, he was spared.
