Are they the ultimate sellouts?

>PLAY STAIRWAY

Hard to sell out when you never had principles in the first place

I like Beth

I don't think this applies to KISS.

Is KISS's music actually worth checking out, or is it all overrated boomer trash.

It's all overrated boomer trash. Unless thats what youre into. The modern pop zoomer equivalence would be post malone or that sixty nine guy

It's shit, they actually fell out of favor during a time period where they ditched the attire. It's an aesthetic type band, like Gwar.

that's like calling Amazon sellouts

>overrated
Does anyone really 'rate' KISS? AFAIK they're regarded as more of a popular band than a critical darling. Even at the height of their success they were never really a rock critic's band and were more notable for touring very heavily, especially in places bigger bands didn't go, and marketing themselves well. Big presence in mass culture but low on social and critical impact.

>they were never really a rock critic's band a
That doesnt matter in the least bit since you ask any rocker guy and they all "hurrr durrr kiss was such an inspiration"

They're mostly overrated, but they also have some good stuff under their belt. I didn't bother listening to them until I realized a lot of gen X bands I listen to idolized them. Most notably, Melvins.

>, Melvins.
This is now a Melvin's thread.

SWANS

I don't know if the Melvins really idolize them persay, but Buzzo likes the 70s (only) stuff and said Ace was a great guitarist before he became a junkie

Destroyer is a dope album

I don't know if it's necessary to specify the period. Point is that they love KISS.

80S THRASH METAL IS THE MOST EXTREME MUSIC THERE IS!!!!!!!

Boomer are the most wholesome people I've met.I don't get why fellow zoomies get so butt blasted over somebody recommend a Kiss song in a thread and things like that. Maybe if you played music that wasn't a generic cash grab emotional drivel, you would be more chill like the boomers.

Look at any thread that discusses 70's Hard Rock and stuff like that, it's always chill discussion (unless some buttblasted dad hater comes). Look at any thread discussing Death Grips, 100gecs and fourth. It's pure shit discussion and low iq bait everywhere.

>nd now do what KISS does by selling thongs and beer cozies but just don't advertise it as loudly
>gives dime a fucking coffin "for free" publicity
Gene fuck off

KISS was about being the biggest band in the world from day 1, they were never punk, they were never posing as anti capitalism, and that's why they're more genuine than your favorite bands who actually did "sell out" and now do what KISS does by selling thongs and beer cozies but just don't advertise it as loudly

>KISS
>Overrated
>Literally the most bashed band in the history of rock snobs
Kek

Actually, this is completely untrue and you pulled that out of your asshole. KISS fell out of favor before they ditched the attire, it was when they put out Dynasty in 1979 when the most rock fans started to turn on them for going "disco", where they were seen as losing all edge completely and attracted a much younger audience than before. It's even reflected in their costumes becoming colorful and whimsical(pic related). This was really when their whole gimmick became a detriment even to their former core audience who were moving onto bands like Van Halen and Iron Maiden who now saw KISS' whole thing as old hat, and the fact that they kept trying to stray from hard rock into the early 80's with softer music only cemented this.

Here's where you're an idiot, because when they did return to hard rock and put out one of their heaviest albums with Creatures Of The Night in 1982 and returned to their edgier image, nobody cared outside of the last die hards because the ship had sailed, it flopped. This is when they took the makeup off in a desperate attempt, and it was THIS move that brought them back into relevancy, taking off the makeup literally saved their career because suddenly people took them more seriously, and they had better success in the 80's with the new version of KISS than most 70's bands did during the era, because non makeup KISS basically just blended into the mainstream metal scene of the era. Not as big as they were in the 70's, but regardless, ditching the attire made them acceptable again

I mean you can be bashed by rock snobs and still be overrated. Most metal bands are bashed by rock snobs.
I agree on the sellout thing. I think there needs to be some kind of principle outside of being the greatest band in the world in order to call anything a sellout.

holy fuck how did you find that picture of my neighbour? he asked me to jam with him once

OMG AEROSMITH, RUSH, UFO, ALICE COOPER,THIN LIZZY, LED ZEPPLIN, KISS, VAN HALEN. 70S HARD ROCK OMGGG

Attached: eddo.jpg (299x168, 6.44K)

This but unironically

Thin Lizzy and Rush are incredibly based, tho.

Yes? Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I know but its still boomercore.

Rush transcends generationcores.

If you think Dime wouldn't have wanted to be burried in a KISS coffin, you're not as big of a Dimebag fan as you think.

Of course he did but Genes fucking Simmons didnt do it out of the kindness of his heart.
Personally I would I think it'd be cringe.

The idea of "selling out" didn't exist until pretentious 80's punk bands needed an excuse as to why they're better than everyone else despite no one liking them.
Before that people understood that popular music was meant to be popular and wasn't some serious artform, it's entertainment for the masses.

Eh, punk rockers didn't invent such attitudes. That is owed to the hippies.

THE GOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN

>Did KISS "Sell out"?
>KISS Sells out every night we play a concert

Direct quote from none other than Paul Stanley from VH1's special KISS: Behind The Makeup

is that a jewish black metal band?

Worst song on Physical Graffiti, still based.
>same riff complaint
Isn't that what you hip kids call "minimalism"? I bet if the song was done by some Krautrock Jam band hippies like Can but with shittier instrumentation you would all jump on it's dick and claim it to be the magnum opus the world needed.

BUT BETH WHAT CAN I DO?

Check out their early work up to Love Gun and then peep out Lick It Up If you're into 80's Glam and Trad Metal.

Pink still makes music?

Saw them this past summer with my girlfriend. Got close to front row tickets and had a fucking blast honestly. They may be gimmicky but their music rocks imo and they put on a great show

all original members still around?

These posts have gotta be trolls. Nobody who's seen them live in the last 12 years would unironically claim they still put on anything resembling a decent live show.

KISS are unironically one of my favourite bands.

Do people just not realize how bad Jon Bon Jovi's voice has gotten?

>and they had better success in the 80's with the new version of KISS than most 70's bands did during the era
They never had the big Desmond Child-penned radio hits like Aerosmith and Heart did.

His voice can't be as bad as Paul Stanley's since 2008.

why did you quote mine, mine was a question

They are a brand, not just a band.

Maybe but the guy's tastes are unbelievably limited and I can't respect someone like that.

If you don't like rush you're no friend of mine

Quote Phil Anselmo, "A lot of people think KISS are a joke especially after 40 or so years, but Alive! was the first album I ever bought when I was 11. There's some great, powerful rock on there."

After LIU they never really managed to produce an anthem again even though songs like Crazy Nights were trying for one.

Bruce Kulick was the best guitarist they had, Ace was just okay and Bruce is somehow the only former band member who's still on good terms with Paul and Gene.

>I didn't bother listening to them until I realized a lot of gen X bands I listen to idolized them. Most notably, Melvins.
Yeah but any time you hear a band talking about how much they loved KISS or Aerosmith when they were kids, it's always because of their 70s output. Nobody has ever said that Crazy Nights was the album that made them want to pick up a guitar.
