Do you guys even play instruments? I feel like all you ever do is just talk about music. What about being active instead of passive?
Do you guys even play instruments? I feel like all you ever do is just talk about music...
I haven't touched my guitar in years, I suck at it
my yamaha keyboard is now a glorified table
Active sounds great but the REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE you get means you gotta get a compressor if you wanna not have a screamer
Passive also sounds great but sometimes you just want a tad more BEEF, but that can be fixed with the right amps and pedals
It's all about the gear you got backing your pickups that makes them go
Do you ever enter guitar generals? Piano generals? Synth generals? Bandcamp threads? Yas Forums makes an album #62793? You're the passive one, lurk more.
yes i do but repeated attempts to share my music on this board have sufficiently confirmed to me that i should have given up a long time ago
I was a hardcore mutant until 23 when i decided to take guitar lessons and bought my first computer, with ableton
I made an album and i got grimes kanye and elon musk to listen to it, which led to them talking with me for a few weeks online through Yas Forums and twitter
I got to exchange photography with kojima on twitter, and discussed sacha bara coens films with him, said hi to ron perlman and ethan from h3h3
I had moved to montreal for this to take place and i was neeting it up for 6 months making shitty music and playing melee
I have alot of personal artistic accolades, i already have passive income and dont care about money because i used to be an engineer so that wasnt the goal
Ive reached artistic fulfilment op, how about you
Lmao at these nerds that actually know how to play an instrument
why did you write all of this
The critic, not the artist, is the one who defines innovation, and rates it.
The artist is merely a vehicle for the aesthetic/ideology of the critic.
The critic is the real artist.
ummmmmm ok its 2020 you dont have to play instruments just make beats on your computer?????
i bet you're a fox main.
holy fucking based
Yes and I'm losing all kinds of money with gigs getting canceled indefinitely thanks to corona.
me too man, its really hard to get by without free fries from the bar and $30 split 5 ways once a weekend
>once a weekend
I gig once every 2 month at best. You have no fucking rights to complain.
Goddamn newfag, all your shit threads are the same
Yes, many instruments
It doesn't mean you're bad, a lot of good shit gets no comments here especially if the thread is old already
Or if you were told you're shit then.. idk man lol
>Goddamn newfag, all your shit threads are the same
I played drums for a couple years as a kid and got decent, and I'm a very mediocre guitarist. I am a talented singer though, and I've been writing poetry/lyrics since I became unemployed over this shit. The writing's actually not as difficult as I always thought it would be.
i know i am shit, i stopped sharing my music with anyone. Now i only create for myself and i am happie this way.
Well I'm a pretty good pianist/keyboardist/synth programmer and I get more gig offers than I have time to accept. On top of that I'm an above-average guitar player. But it's not surprising that people here spend a lot of time talking about the stuff they listen to because you have to listen to a lot of music to be a good musician.
shit, me too bro.
although i prefer Quake.

Instruments? You dont mean my dust shelves, huh?
> crusted cum on the pedal
how?
Things get messy when I step on my whammy
It's a really old pedal I got free from a friend, and that's likely ash from incense
Hey speaking of instruments, I'm really starting to think about buying a Roland VR-09 because of the nice variety of sounds and the nice b3 organ emulation.
Any anons here got recommendations for a better way to spend $800-$1000 on a keyboard?
Those are great. The VR730 is a better choice if you're willing to spend more. I also recommend adding an EHX Lester K to make the rotary sound better, since the default rotary simulation is acceptable but not spectacular.
I play bass. I'm a based bassist.
I smoke weed and play drums, that's the pinnacle of musical expression
no, i suck at everything, so pretty sure that i won’t be good at least at music
This user gets it
Flute
>guitar generals?
Nobody actually talks about gear or guitar shit in there at all.
Get better english comprehension skills buddy
I’ve been playing drums and percussion for 10 years, bass guitar for 2 years. I have minimal vocal and piano experience too. Plan on writing and recording some rock music soon
I've never seen someone who can't play an instrument make a good beat
i did write some nice piano melodies in fl studio but i got bored
I play several but I've been so fucking busy with school that I haven't played them much lately.
>tfw you used to meditate on theory and scales in the morning while semi-conscious in bed but haven't in months
I play guitar and bass, but because I’m insecure about bass player stereotypes I don’t tend to advertise it. I wanna absolutely spam guitar so I can maybe join a band this summer but I feel like I’m not good enough especially since there are so many Instagram guitarists who are way more technical than me, feelsbadman
Agh, now I found out that the FA-06 exists and is around the same price. No drawbars (and maybe no quick way to toggle the rotor??) but a vastly larger and allegedly higher quality sample library, as well as a sampler and built-in 16 track midi sequencer. Tough choice.
i haven't touched my guitar since high school and finally sold it three days ago
So, what do you need all that baby oil for?
Does my girlfriend count when I hit her rhythmically?
I know people who can “sorta” play an instrument - maybe had lessons briefly and stopped when they were young, have an instrument lying around, and still listen to a lot of music as a hobby. I myself had lessons for about a year when I was a kid, regrettably stopped, and now just use online chord charts and teach myself melodies by ear.
I love discussing music with them in-depth, but whenever I suggest we try and work on some recordings together, even something simple like a cover of a Beatles song, they will come up with myriad excuses not to do it. A good example from the other night:
Me: “I was playing Albatross by Fleetwood Mac on guitar today, maybe one day we could jam out to it and see what we get? You could use the organ setting on your keyboard or s/t”
Friend: “uhhh...I don’t really like jam bands...I think we could only write a song if it revolved around a very simple loop”
Are they trying to hint I shouldn’t really bother and will always be an annoyance until I can read sheet? Is it just a poor understanding of how music composition works (trial and error and freeform jamming, often based on songs that already exist, rather than a song emerging fully formed from nowhere).
I'm a collector and a listener, not a player or creator.
Here’s my shit. Made a song earlier today.
make better posts cunt
>writing note names on the keys
yikes
Looks like nice gear though
annoying soiposter
no. what are you going to do about it you fucking pepe poster? at least Im not lying
People are dumbasses regarding music and expect to always hear something they're comfortable and familiar with. It's not like other art where your enjoyment is passive, enjoying music and making it requires a level of proactivity that most people simply don't posses.
God this is such a retarded take, as if artists aren't capable of having taste or applying their own critical opinion to their work. The act of making art is a process of criticism and taste making, good artists don't need a critic to tell them their work is good. Scaruffi's a moron fuckface
Does sex toys count as intruments?
If u make sound with it yea
I play keyboard every day
I don't even listen to music
Best music expert in thread man. Have too much fun listening and read. For now I go bath, but later I jam too hard!
just picked up jazz on guitar, hope i stick with it
My social anxiety prevents me from starting lessons, and I don't want to be the kind of guy that buys a guitar to "self-learn" and end up doing nothing with it.
Yeah I practice and play guitar at least once a week.
i've been self learning and i basically never stopped playing for almost 10 years and then i started taking lessons. You should give it a try, guitars are not very expensive instruments.
Being afraid of failure will only hinder you as a person.
Trust me, I know.
Low brass gang but also have picked up bass and can play piano well enough to entertain myself though perhaps not others
