Which headphones should I buy for making music in my daw? When I play midi notes on my keyboard there's a huge delay between when I touch the keys and when the note plays in my headphones, is this characteristic of all wireless headphones?
Jordan Diaz
More likely to be audio settings in your DAW, try adjusting the sample rate
James Parker
Also lower your buffer as low as possible before getting cracks and pops. It might be placebo, but I swear Reaper has it set up where the buffer is smaller when you have a midi editor window open for the instrument that you're playing.
Try with wired headphones and/or speakers and see if the problem persists. If you still get the delay then it's not an issue with your headphones. If the delay disappears then yes it's probably it.
>Which headphones should I buy for making music in my daw? A particular type of headphone called "monitoring headphones" that are made specifically to be as accurate as possible (as opposed to regular headphones, which usually alter the sound to make your music sound better - you absolutely do NOT want this). Open backed ones sound significantly more accurate than closed back ones, but have the downside of letting external sound in and leaking your music out, so they can't be used in every situation. Wireless headphones should generally be avoided, as the signal is often compressed so what you end up getting isn't the full quality that you're supposed to hear.

how good is your audio driver? if you got windows you need ASIO4ALL probably.

Is my mixing fucked? I feel like I can't mix that well and I'm looking for tip
>voca.ro/4tJSOp1pLMD This sounds really good on my speaker. I would prefer the bell=like synths to be a little louder and the shaker to be a little softer, but that's just my taste. You're not allowed to post again until you add percussive elements.
Nolan Reyes
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm really just looking to buy new headphones that are good for both production and listening for pleasure (on the subway for instance). Any good options for $200 or less?
Kayden Bell
how do i write chords for trap/hip hop
Lincoln Walker
...the same way you write chords for anything else?
Carson Brooks
Thanks, I appreciate you listening

Zachary King
I like this a lot for a house song, but I agree with , this needs some drums
Jordan Lopez
the thing is listening headphones are colored (have some eq changes on them) and mixing headphones need to be flat. for recreation, i have some sennheisers that are amazing. idk about any mixing headphones though
Liam Moore
play the chords and see what sounds good
Jonathan Wood
I know the basics of music theory and a little more (jazz chords and the like) but all the music i tend to make flows around a simple two chord loop that only varies on synths and melodies which dont really change much, how can I practice composition to make more songs rather than glorified loops?
i don't know why the link says based heres the right one clyp.it/basedwzeee
Elijah Walker
> why does the link say based. it's "s 0 y w" . no spaces. s0yw. s0yw. what is this
Brayden Baker
Add more chords. Add A sections, B sections, C sections, and order them whichever way you can think of. Modulate keys, change time signatures, go half time, go double time, add breakdowns, and solo sections.

>yfw Roland has basically been selling the same sound canvas keyboard for 30 years
They delay is not caused by the headphones, follow the other guys' advice on that.
As for the headphones, if you don't want to spend too much then get ATH M50X.
Ethan Robinson
The mid range is not very present, there is too much bass by a mile also. Everybody mixes with too much bass when they start so stop doing that.
Colton Powell
What do you mean?
Hudson Hernandez
Yeah the ride is too loud for sure but it's a nice track. The whole mix is pretty unbalanced, use volume automations to get the levels even.
Mason Brooks
>m50x m40x costs less and has a flatter response.
Anthony Edwards
You all just use m50x's? What about other stuff like the DT 990, 880, 770, Akg K240 MKII, etc, even m40x which a lot of people say is better than m50x
Kevin Kelly
Show me the chart please? I never listened to the 40s.
Jordan Roberts
I went to a consumer electronics shop with my girlfriend and saw the M50X, and I told her they are meant to be good headphones. We listened to a few different ones and they sounded best so she bought them for me. I don't have time to read 7000 different reviews and find specialist shops to try out everything ever made. You nerds wouldn't understand.

just waiting for it all to be delivered now. My current gear is a microkorg, yamaha PSS100 and DX100. Squier bass, fender 70s strat and a Tokai les paul through a marshall MG
I've just got a 2012 macbook pro. don't know what DAW to use. i've just been messing around in garageband
Christopher Kelly
oh and i have a Boss drum machine and Roland MC500 mk 2 sequencer that is missing the floppy disk
Mason Hall
>Why yes, I click in MIDI notes to create my masterpieces
This guy gets it. 40x are EXCELLENT for mixing/mastering. 50x are too colored/bass heavy
Alexander Gomez
sounds like you have a pretty good idea...
great work user
Owen Thomas
"fuck yes" fuck no" lol i love it
Jace Harris
Honestly that looks way worse than the op pic
Ryder Thomas
I usually write a LOT of those loops then i combine them together into tracks, i just change the key of the second or first one so that they're compatible. there are no rules to this, i encourage you to find your own solutions!
David Cooper
Is a Mac worth it if I mainly want to play guitar and bass with amp simulators and use Logic's drummer?
Kevin Smith
Any anons have experience using these PreSonus Eris E5 monitors for recording metal? On the fence between the M-Audio BX8 D3 and these ones.
I'm loving my PreSonus interface, so I'm leaning towards the E5 just because of that, but I know fuck all about monitors when it comes to choosing the right one for this type of music.
I just bought some steel series Arctis 3 wireless headphones which arrived yesterday. They are comfy as fuck and I barely took them off all day, in the evening I was using them for editing some recordings (wirelessly) and really couldn’t hear any difference from the Beyerdynamic DT250’s I usually use. Starting to think my ears might be totally fucked
Just get some Beyerdynamic or Sennhieser studio headphones that fit your budget. I’ve been listening to music on my Beyerdynamics for 20+ years now.
Connor Roberts
I have these, I do not make metal but I'm quite quite happy with them. As with all monitors, make sure you have a good space for them, acoustics wise. That really affects the sound. But in the right space, they sound awesome.
Wyatt Brown
Well it’s worth it for me as I have one.
The question you need to ask is is it worth it to you?
Christopher Gutierrez
Thanks user, what do you mean by good space?
My bedroom is by no means acoustically treated, but if you mean proper distancing/positioning to the sweet spot, I have around 8-10 sq/m of room to play around with, and I'll be sure to spend sometime moving things.
Isaac Cox
I have E8s and they are very good, but I never compared them to anything else.
Jeremiah Young
look at the kali lps a proper waveguide helps immensely with off axis response and therefore reducing discoloration of the reflected sound which you will benefit greatly from in an untreated space
