is Pearl Jam good?

chad dad music

Better than Nirvana at least

Yes, but I strongly prefer Vs. and Vitalogy to Ten. And to be honest, my favorite stuff by them tends to be Vedder's folky stuff. He's a good songwriter.

Yeah, they're good. I only listened to them in the 90's, though, so I don't know what they sound like now.

I'm a Pearl Jammer. I've gotten my wife and daughter into it as well, and in fact there are FOUR Pearl Jammers in my house, if you count my dog Jeremy

Yes

Are you a snowboarder?

No, this is about Pearl Jam

Their new stuff's basically metalcore with light elements of bubblegum bass
Shit got crazy when they replaced Stone Gossard with Kim Thayil

"pearl jam" means cum. i met their bassist jeff once and asked him about the name and he says the band tells the press they had an aunt who used to make a pearl colored jam like the kind you'd spread on toast and such but really its a dirty name they thought it would be funny to hear people saying on the radio back in the early 90s like the butthole surfers

this bands name is literally cum

Oh, like Genesis P-Orridge.

Easily the weakest of the big 4, but they're good. Vedder is a great bloke. Mother Love Bone were better desu

Yes but skip no code to their self titled
(cept maybe for yield)

they're ok. they have some good songs, but honestly they're pretty bad.

Only their first few albums. Ten, Vs, Vitalogy. From No Code onwards they forgot how to write good songs and became utter shit.

I'M GOING HUNGRY
I'M GOING HUNGRY YEAH!

And I thought I couldn’t like them anymore than I do already

THEY'RE FUCKING HIGH FIVING ON THE COVER

Their debut is pretty good but they literally have nothing memorable outside of that. I never even heard any Pearl Jam songs outside of their self titled album.

dad music? what are you 12?

Not him but I'm 26 and my dad likes pearl jam - they're definitely dad rock music if your parents are gen x

Lol

Not at all. It's like Nickelback for Gen Xers

It's better than fucking Nickleback.

as stupid of a genre label as "grunge" is, pearl jam is easily the worst out of the big four seattle grunge bands.

Zoomers hate them. Click here to find out why.

not really though if you're honest with yourself. It's just mediocre arena rock for a different generation. They have this weird punky legacy because of the affiliation with Temple of the Dog and a bunch of their cooler contemporaries, but truth is Pearl Jam was like a gayer Bruce Springsteen for the 1990's

No Code is their best. Vitalogy is earnest if a bit cheesy. The rest can be discarded, especially everything after No Code.

I agree STP is pretty sick. I like them more than Pearl Jam, sometimes I like to listen to Ten or Vitalogy every once in a while.

Yes. Ten is the greatest album of all time (or at least the European version is).

Vs is almost as good (Rats is a pretty boring song though).

Vitalogy is where they started to go wrong and trying to basically piss off their fanbase by having shit songs like Bugs and Satan's Bed and non-songs like Pry, To and Aye Davanita.

No Code is actually really underrated but is pretty mellow in places and is more ''mature'' if you will,

Yield has it's moment with Given to Fly as it's clear highlight.

Haven't bothered listen to Binaural

Riot Act is solid

I've only heard the singles from the rest of their albums (except the ones the played live the two times I've seen them) and most of them are pretty good. The song The Fixer is fucking awesome for example.

Note that I like Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, The Screaming Trees and Mother Love Bone as much as I like Pearl Jam.

Also, they were never the same band without Dave Abbruzzese. They should've asked Dave Krusen to come back in 1998 instead of asking Matt Cameron to join the band. I love Matt as a drummer and he's one of my main inspirations as a drummer myself, but his style doesn't suit Pearl Jam at all.

Better than Nirvana at least

Yield, Binaural and Riot Act are pretty much the only listenable radio rock albums from 1998-2002, aka the era of gay shit like Creed and Smash Mouth

I'd have like them more if not for vedder's annoying ass voice
>AAAAAAHOOOOOOUUHH AAHHHHHHH YEEEEAAAAAAAH
fuck off with that shit

In 1991, Vedder's voice sounded amazing to everyone. Blame people like Scott Stapp for making Vedder's vocals seem cringey in retrospect

Give me your top 3 vocalist then, faggot

male
layne staley
peter steele
andrew eldritch

female
anneke van giersbergen
liv kristine
siouxsie sioux

pearl jam is better than nirvana

Same, his vocals are so fucking annoying
Pearl Jam suck asscrack

yeah, same thing with soundgarden, no wonder cornell and vedder were buttbuddies, they both had annoying ass voices
blackholesun is good in the first half, then he starts doing that gay yelling voice of his and ruins the damn song

>Yield has it's moment with Given to Fly as it's clear highlight.
>Not Do the Evolution
You're very brave for coming out of the closet. Have your parents been supportive?

Yes. One of the GOATs and though they're not my favorite of the big four, they have a shitload of great music and lots of albums worth getting into.
Listen to Binaural. It's probably my favorite post-90s record.
I'm a drummer and Matt's my favorite and biggest influence too, and I'm not sure. I think his fit in Pearl Jam is fine. He writes a lot of music which none of their other drummers ever really did and he's technically the best drummer they've ever had, but Abbruzzese was definitely the best PJ fit. Krusen never would have come back and Matt was just right place, right time with Soundgarden having broken up not long before so I think it was right for them to make that call. Soundgarden was definitely Matt's true calling though.

word
dave a was the brains behind their best song (go btw)

>Not Do the Evolution
It's a pretty boring punk riff and the vocal delivery is not that good either.
>peter steele
sucks
>andrew eldritch
is ok for the music they play
>layne staley
aic is as I wrote, fantastic, but you can stop ridig their dick now. There's no animosity between them and PJ
His playstyle is way to stiff. Stiffer than it was in Soundgarden. He basically destroys Even Flow live too.

AiC, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam are all good because their roots are in 70's hard rock and heavy metal, no matter how hard some individuals will deny that, anyone with ears can hear it

Nirvana on the other hand, is the worst because they are not rooted in such music.

every band of that era is better than nirvana, it's just that nirvana had the biggest mass appeal.

In my opinion alice in chains was the best of the grunge era closely followed by soundgarden, then pearl jam, then stone temple pilots, and lastly nirvana.

Matt's a better choice than anyone else they had. And they all destroy Even Flow live. They've been playing it way too fast for like decades now.

Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and STP are equally good to me, whereas Nirvana are massively inferior to all of them. But most people like Robert Christgau hold Nirvana in the highest regard, because "muh voice of a generation" and "muh simple catchy punk songs"

yes it's very annoying and tiring, I honestly feel like nirvana was way closer to pop punk and that's why they excelled so much. Kurt was really only great at writing lyrics but his singing and guitar playing were so bad.

It's a shame how big of an influence smells like teen spirit had on an entire generation. Dirt and facelift had the most impact on me from that era which is why I hold AiC slightly above the rest, but I agree with you on the ranking.

>Matt's a better choice than anyone else they had
However true that may be, it doesn't change the fact that his style of drumming doesn't suit the early PJ songs,
>And they all destroy Even Flow live. They've been playing it way too fast for like decades now
Ever since they (read Eddie) fired Dave Abbruzzese, yes.

>He called his dog Jeremy
kys Vedder

>thinking kurts playing was ''bad''
you forgot your fedora my gentleman friend,
yeah his playing is simple, but to call it ''bad'' is simply dishonest. Its perfectly acceptable and his song writing on guitar was great

why do I hear this post so clearly?

Ten is a brilliant album, I've tried to get into their stuff afterwards but it's just not done it for me. Although they've still had the occasional great song like Go, Do The Evolution and I Am Mine.

Always thought Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins were in a different league to them,

just realized i've never listened to Alice In Chains, lads

Enjoy

I wish I was in your shoes
