Why does music made in the early 80s sound so much different from music made in the rest of the 80s?
He discovered America you retard.
Which yacht rock champion is next, Yas Forums? Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald or David Pack? Taking bets now.
Not as many synths, drum machines, and digital production if I had to guess
Jimmy Buffet
>80 years old
>still doing shows
Hell be fine.
My money's on Kenny Loggins going next.
Wtf noooooo.
I vote this.
This.
>Yas Forums
>implying I'm not asking Yas Forums the same question as we speak
>Grammys and an Oscar

Are boomers fucking retarded? Stay inside.

But he's got such a long way to go, to make it to the border of Mexico.
top 5 yacht rock
>steely dan
>toto
>michael mcdonald
>christopher cross
>kenny loggins
For me, it's Ambrosia. That whole prog/yacht rock hybrid they had going on was great.
Boz Scaggs > Kenny Loggins and Toto
All decades take a couple years to form its own aesthetic
How the fuck does someone get so insanely popular making literal elevator muzak?
Yacht rock was huge in the late '70s to early '80s. Hell, it still is super popular in Japan.
Maybe, but 5x platinum huge? Sweeping the gammy’s huge? Just one completely unknown guy became an overnight pop star on the back of a pretty average and unremarkable album for its genre. He’s got “industry plant” written all over him.
His popularity only lasted a handful of years. He was a complete has-been by 1985.
>How the fuck does someone get so insanely popular making literal elevator muzak?
Hope he'll be okay.
Do you agree with the theory that MTV killed his career?
Well yeah, he had no personality whatsoever and also looked like a truck driver
Probably, but I think it had more to do with his style of music generally fading out of the mainstream.
Yacht rock was already on its way out in America by about 1984-5.
>his style of music generally fading out of the mainstream.
.... because of MTV.
>How the fuck does someone get so insanely popular making literal elevator muzak?
Radiohead.
You know.
underrated comment
Donald Fagen

Michael Jackson is unironically better at the genre than any of them
This album won grammy for best album over The Wall and it's well deserved
not that the grammies matter at all

Meltdown [1980s]
I think you gents should sit back, click on a link, and hear the true story of Christopher Cross, the Sir Galahad of Yacht Rock...
...
It appealed to neurotic yuppies of that era.

Ride Like the Wind is a banger desu
I don't hate the guy, but his voice just isn't for me. Also, I once saw a TV commercial featuring his hits, showing him on stage with several shots of him from different angles in quick succession, likely covering up the fact he's an amazingly boring live performer who hardly moves around on stage at all. I'm afraid that was a further turn off for me.
He'll be fine.
Think of Laura is one of the main reasons for it, the dude's vocals are a bit hard to take.
I don't care much for anything beyond Sailing and Ride Like The Wind desu but those 2 tracks were damn good
Apparently John Lennon really liked CC's debut album.
Interesting.
