I mean, huge Japan band but just making sure cos I'm not seeing links.
I was never huge into japanese music, metal, or pop, but their evolution since the 90's to now is just something beautiful I always felt.
They have such a unique but entirely accessible sound because they never abandoned melody and emotion, and I feel like they got there entirely through their own volition and not by copying others, even though they've ended up with similarities, it feels their own.

I've been into VK for a long time. I don't like every VK bands, and especially am not very interested in modern stuff outside of a few bands that are mainly made up from veteran guys.
Like every music genre/scene, most of the stuff isn't that good. You gotta dig a bit and discriminate to actually find stuff to your liking.
But again, you're projecting, because most likely, you are one of these people who hop around fads, get extremely obsessed, and then get sick of it and drop it, to jump onto another fad. At the end of your life you'll find yourself without any actual taste.
Anyway, again, if you just want to shitpost for shitposting's sake, go to k-pop threads. Nobody likes these guys, they don't even post music.

Not really. Even though I wouldn't call VK a proper music genre, it still isn't exactly like western hair metal or power metal, especially the 90s stuff. Rather than hair metal or power metal, most VK sounds like a mix of hardcore punk and goth rock.
X Japan did some speed metal/power metal yes, but X Japan, despite being usually referred to as "the godfathers of vk", didn't really influence the sound of VK all that much. Instead, bands like Boowy, Buck-Tick and Kuroyume were way more influential, sound-wise.
But again, you're already wrong in assuming we don't listen to western stuff as well. Music is music, I don't need to like something depending on the region. For some reason, you do care about that, though.
