I don’t know about you, but I fucking love cute and happy concepts. I love dated cute concepts and sounds from the 2nd generation of K-pop even more. The synthpop/electropop sound from that era is absolutely PERFECT, the styling is so simple and adorable, and so were the music videos. Music-wise, these concepts tend to be easy and enjoyable to listen to- the songs usually become an earworm for me.
When I listen to K-pop, it’s usually to be happy or to get energized. For me, K-pop gives me what western music doesn’t usually offer- cute, corny, and overwhelmingly happy music. What I prefer is songs like Gee, Kissing You, Oh!, and other early SNSD songs. I love Twice, NCT Dream, and Fromis_9 too, they do cute and colorful concepts in an updated way. While I do also appreciate maturer and fiercer concepts, cute, cheery, and pure will always be my favorite.
I feel like I’m one of the select few western fans that prefer this type of style. I wish more groups would do cute concepts, I’m really starving for them amidst the constant girl crush/sexy/etc. trend that’s going on. The girl/boy next door image absolutely needs to make a return. I know it’ll probably never happen, but damn would I like to see SNSD comeback with an updated version of their rookie concepts.

Unlike most chinese series that include insufferable badly made fantasy elements this one has a really nice realistic feeling to it.

I think that Kpop albums are so outdated. It's not about the packaging or the concept, but it's about the songs in a CD. Nowadays, who uses a CD anymore? We're all into USB and we don't really see much laptops that have a CD player with it, most of them are using USB instead.
I think that Kpop groups should stop making albums in a CD but in a USB flash drive instead. They can still package their other unnecessary stuffs like photo cards or photo books too if they wanted to, I believe they can think of it.
Kpop albums in a CD is just too outdated and we need to move on, the world is changing and technology is getting better. We use to have phonograph record and we use the suitable player for it and it evolved into the usual CDs we still have. But nowadays, who uses a CD for a single use only? A USB flash drive is much more convenient and practical.
I know that G-Dragon had done this before and the kpop award shows didn't take his idea seriously, but that's what should be done right now. Kpop CDs are just irrelevant in this time. Let's just move on to USB instead.

Don't know if this is unpopular, but it still happens a lot and I don't see much discussion around it. Alot of fansites take really good pictures but they edit them by making the idol's so white and it weirds me out. Lia (ITZY) is a good dancer.
She's just outshined by everyone else in ITZY because all the other members have enough dance skills to be lead dancer. I think if she debuted in another group she wouldn't be hated on for her dancing, because her dancing isn't really as bad as people make it out to be.
It's also the fact that she had the least training time of all of the other members (2 years) and couldn't work on her skills as much. In addition, she has a very light way of dancing which can come across as inexperienced, even though she has more technique than people give her credit for.
I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but many of my friends who like kpop ruthlessly hate on Lia. It's honestly unfair.

I just wanna preface this by saying that I know that they experience their own struggles and I don’t wish for them to be any less successful . But to see half white idol after half white idol become famous meanwhile we haven’t had a single half black idol is kinda frustrating. It’s not just half black but any darker skinned idol in general.

I don't know if it's just me but Wannabe just sounded forgettable. Ryujin in the beginning sounded WAY to nasally for my taste. The beats were generic af. The only part of the song I found good was the choreo. (Especially ryujin's shoulder move). But lets compare to icy. The vocals in icy were amazing. I think Somi leaving and being replaced by the younger trainee Yuna was honestly the best thing to happen to Itzy. Yuna's charismatic on and off stage. She's fun, a little wacky and has this youthful energy that makes her the perfect Idol.
