What are some quick tips on mixing guitar with drums?

how do I get older anjunabeats/anjunadeep sound?
or older edm progressive house sound?
like pre 2012 vibes/sound
inb4 vengeance

reminder to always be a solo act and only collaborate with others as separate artists
can you imagine if the guy you're committed to with your whole career comes out as trans?
if you leave everyone will think it's because of his coming out and if you don't you'll be laughed at forever
theres no winning with this shit

dylan brady sucks ass on his own though, his solo music is garbage

Silly user
Always posting stupid
Gecs, please
Execute yourself

its probably better to fail at music and find another career altogether than to be stuck in this hell

>based gecs
Op you fucking retard, it’s like you wanted this thread to fail

Yo this is a techno roller I wrote, I think it’s basically done and I think it came out really well

Two questions:

Does anything stick out as being weird on your sound system?

Does it slap? I think it does but I’m sure some user has something for me to improve so I called it a draft

clyp.it/gcaqqud1

clyp.it/dv2jwkxi

tried to work on this breakcorish machinegirl inspired type thing. not usually making this type of music though so any feedback helps. thoughts on the oversaturation? ending is a bit of a mess still

clyp.it/dv2jwkxi

just wanted to make things more interesting

sounds really good to me. that sound that comes in at like 1:08 is sick as hell but could definitely use some slight variance through out the track so it doesn't get too stale

Yo there were some parts that were jammin, the almost emo vocal from the mid point threw me off. I don’t usually listen to this sort of thing but some of the sampling was interesting and dope. Since there’s so much different shit going on in the track it’s hard to say if the parts I didn’t like overshadowed the track as a whole

I take it the saturation is on purpose so I won’t comment but I think it sounds a little “dead” like it could use more highs. The bass was a tad low for my taste.

I’m the guy above you so feed for feed? ;)

Yo thank you yeah I might vary it up a little. I’m going for a more minimal thing so it’s hard to draw the line. Thanks again for listening

i like it, but if it was my track and i was listening to it to find what to go and change first, this is what stood out:
hats and ride from 2:20 are too high in the mix and too central
at 3:40 i don't like how the kick and bass interact, i would guess the s/c or volume env on the bass is real sharp, no groove to the interaction
arrangement wise i would say that not enough happens to the bass with it being so central to the track that it could be played for a long time in a dj mix. it is too repetitive without action. but i like it. if i heard a short sample on beatport on whatever, i would definitely check it out.
i would ask, what is the central theme of the track and where does the energy come from?

the kickdrum is a little stuffy and it doesn't have much of a soundstage (?) but the rest seems alright to me if a little repetitive
keep going

the mix sounds a little neutered of attack and dynamic range but i like the song, neat sounds and samples

Who are the most talented ghost producers?
Who has the best portfolio?

in the main part of the track i think there is too much going on and the sounds overlap. i guess this is the style of the genre to have lots of samples, but there is overlap of sounds and it makes it difficult to hear what the actual sounds are. it's an interesting track, but i would say it needs to be cleaner. there's not much at the top or the bottom

yeah those emoish vocals might get scrapped then. using abletons saturator so could probably do better with something else. struggling like hell getting the bass right but definitely noted.

what i said here basically. definitely sounds dope minimal but like just an ever so slightly moving filter or something on that sound so it doesnt hit the exact same every time is all i mean. that bass is incredible tho. what vst you using?

Thanks for the detailed feedback I’ll go in tomorrow and see what I can whip up as far as spicing up the bass. I really appreciate it, thanks again!

Deeper kick you think? I’ll flip through some samples tomorrow or I might just try and nerd out and synthesize a kick that fits better. Thanks for the feedback

That’s a Bass Bot v2 (303 clone). It works nicely with midi which is why I like it because besides pressing random pattern I dont understand the interface at all. I just programmed the pattern in ableton and then I ran that into a tape distortion with some lightish chorus

hmm i spent a bunch of time trying to have things fade around and stuff only to kill it all with the saturation. think you got a point

Either pressing play on a whole track or pressing play on pieces of tracks and then twiddling effects

can /prod/ tell me what Nicolas Jaar is doing on his laptop this whole set?

youtube.com/watch?v=glMTA4dEnrQ

reposting cause I forgot link

I don’t have to watch to know that is basically the extent of a laptop set. It’s like in between DJing and performing with hardware/controllers and actually programming live. There’s no realistic way he’s doing anything else with just a laptop unless he has super autism and can manipulate a bunch of shit with just a trackpad

After casually glancing at the video MAYBE he’s also doing some live granular synth stuff which is pretty simple as far as only using a trackpad.

This sounds more like an excerpt from a movie soundtrack, however I'm wondering if there's some way I could turn it in to an actual song, any tips are welcome :)

>MAYBE he’s also doing some live granular synth stuff which is pretty simple as far as only using a trackpad.
any examples of this? just want to picture how it's being manipulated, etc.

Last day analog dreams is free. Have another other soft synths gone free for corona?

can i use this without whatever the fuck native instruments is? because it didn't let me pick which drive to install it to so i'm already pretty close to uninstalling

I'm not improving one bit and I don't know why. I want to improve my keyboard playing but don't really know how.

how to improve at anything:
challenge yourself to do something slightly above your skill level- not so much that it's overwhelming and unfun but enough that you're working harder than you usually do

>the world is on lockdown
>almost no scene releases
Are those cracking teams salaried?
Do they all work at an office or something?

i'm new to recording myself and i'm trying to make some noise rock. i don't want it to sound polished or anything, and in fact i'd like to lean into a sort of shitty sound. i know most of what goes into a good sound comes from good recording rather than mixing but the reality is i gotta sing in the car and i don't have good equipment lol. but regardless, i know i can't just record and then be done, even if i want it to sound "unpolished." i'm trying to use my ear but i can't tell if for example the vocals are too loud or if there's a question i can't even begin to ask. i appreciate whatever advice you got
clyp.it/fkkfqre5

i'm not really looking for help on the music itself, i know it isn't really too interesting (that is, it's dogshit). just trying to learn mixing stuff

Why can I only make soulless unfinished EDM demos? What is wrong with me?

any feedback

Do you just trial and error your way to melodies and chords?

iMac Late 2015 Core i5 2.8GHZ yes or no to run Ableton Live 10?

How shitty is it to have lack of portability?

what are the problems you're having? these two instruments go super well with each other and pretty much don't clash at all, so be more specific

Where do you find images to use as covers for tracks? I'm looking for lo-fi strange/weird/uncomfortable pictures with david lynch aesthetics.
Stuff like pic related would also work

Attached: 220px-Boardsofcanadatwoism[1].jpg (220x220, 16.92K)

Will you still be able to make through music after the great depression?

Either that or come up with them in your head. If you've already built part of the track you can try humming a melody on top of it also.

i dont like all his stuff but when he does pop it bangs, usually when hes producing someone else though youtube.com/watch?v=GXcWmduczL4

i literally cant make melodies without chords and all my chords are always quantized its shitty as fuck but it works i guess

no

it's a vst yes you set the install path in the options.

yeahh actually his pop stuff is great, i forgot
i cant get with his solo shit at all though whereas as laura's solo stuff is really good

clyp.it/jgg00zrf

this shit turned out so garbage i barely bothered to arranged it
might be one of the worst things ive ever made
just complete uninspired garbage
but practice, right? i guess

>You are gifted. I'd cut my left thump and swallow it if I had half your fucking talent. I guess you can make a hit my just resting your butt on a keyboard while recording it and then throwing 4 effects and a cats meowing over it.
im so incredibly sorry you feel that way because im only okay at best. this is only my third year doing this shit though so if you think im good it wont be long till youre at my level.

dont let this thread die faggots

Of all the free soft synths which ones have the most tutorials? I found the helm interface easiest to get my head around, is that a good one to start with? Any other suggestions? I need something to make a bass line to play a long with my guitar to.

synth1 probably

bump

any good programs/plug ins for voice manipulation? stuff like autotune, pitched up, etc.

really new to this stuff

I usually pick a scale, decide if I want the overall cadence(dunno if that’s the right word) to go up or down and then just experiment with chords.

For melodies they “just come to me” I guess, once you have your chords it’s easier.

70s japanese tv

Weird question and I hope someone can help me out here: Playboi Carti - No Time has a mixing glitch at 2:01. How does something like this happen? Could I replicate it myself, in a regular DAW? How? Would greatly appreciate any insight.

seems a little fast try turn down the tempo a bit
I feel like the hats could get busier with like rolls and stuff
Maybe be the snare could be wetter
I feel like the bass could be dirtier
What if you did a section that changed it up somehow like it went halftime or it used a synth bass or something
Overall I fwi, the 808 pattern especially knocks. Would love to hear future versions

RAM and hard drive/ssd space?
Regardless, a modern computer can run abelton, now depends how intensive you are, plug-ins, how big usually are your projects etc... Portability simply depends on your lifestyle and if you intend to play live. Do you have another computer/laptop? Only you know that info.

clyp.it/4a442hnz
is it catchy
how do i make it catchy if it isn't?

I consider buying a mic. Either Shure SM57LC oder MXL 770 - any recommendations/experiences? Want to use it for vocals/voice, instruments and recording of sounds for effects/samples.

sounds like a fuckup during exporting or en/transcoding to the final medium
these happen all the time because computers are just like that and stuff like that should be found by quality control, somebody probably got fired there
if you want to replicate it take your final render and cut a straight up hole of 1-5ish samples of silence, no fades just a plain gap

the quality of your room as in acoustics and freedom of noise from streets, computer fans, neighbours and all that dictates the choice inbetween a condenser or a dynamic mic
with the dynamic mic it's easier to get rid of most of the room influence just by getting up close, the condenser will probably sound "better" as in more hifi without needing the same amount of polish, but it will pick up a lot more shit you might not want
doesn't mean you can't add a shittonne of gain to a dynamic and use that with more distance to get a roomier sound or you get super close to a condenser to drown out the surrounding in a similar way when shelving the proximity effect the fuck down
but that's just the basic gist

I have this complex bass line on midi, is there a way to make it sound more like the instrument without having to buy a bass? So it sounds less robotic and more fluid
Like chaining the notes, if that makes any sense

Thanks, that answers it for me. Shure for sure bcs until I got my accustics done will take some time. There's not much street noise and shit since living in a remote area but the room ...

the intro is catchy, but feels a little too typically-melodic, like the phrase needs to end more atonally or something
the rest is the opposite, not enough melody or theme or cool instrumentation, and too saturated with noises in the mids i think? it sounds like it's about to drop into a really wide mix of melodic synth and a sick bassline but it doesn't pay off
what you're doing isn't the kind of music i like anyway so some of this might just be down to personal taste, also i'm a huge noob

are you using some sort of bass guitar plugin or are you fine using a synth sound?
if the latter is the case you can make some amazing funky fingerstyle bass sounding shit with most simple substractive synths that's perfect for busy lines
youtube.com/watch?v=Ng0iXDW2t50
here's a pretty in-depth tutorial from that guy
youtube.com/watch?v=kEmt6iCaUuc

Sweet, thanks so much. As a followup, do you think there's anything about that song that would have made that exporting/encoding error more likely? Is it something to do with the mix maybe?
