I like the Doors a lot but I don't really see much influence they've had on music that came after them, at least not to the same extent as most other famous artists of the era. With such a unique sound, why have they not been copied as frequently?
What influence have the Doors had on music?
Jim Morrison singlehandedly created the archetypal rock star persona. Parts of it had been exemplified among various frontmen before, but he brought it all together.
jim's charisma as frontman made an impression on iggy pop as the stooges were getting off the ground, for one example
pretty much this.
Jim Morrison was the first real rockstar
I know this, but I meant the band's sound itself. You don't really see anything emulated about this band except for Jim Morrison's whole image
i think they had an influence on goth rock and prog
Nico was very inspired by him. released an entire album named after the final song in their s/t album. Her sound overall is very influenced by The End.
all prog rock that used keyboards/ organs is pretty much because of them too, along with other psychedelic rock bands like Spirit.
Like Nirvana, Public Enemy, and Throbbing Gristle, they created/translated an entire aesthetic out of their music.
The Doors did a lot for rock incorporating jazz (and bossa nova and latin) elements. Krieger and Manzarek and Densmore did some things a lot of musicians looked up to.
Also Morrison's psychedelic and dangerous lyricism. Look at bands like Steely Dan doing similar things with lyricism and jazz and rock. His persona also in various ways fed into the music, it had a general sense of danger and mystery not much music dared to veer into before.
OP YOU ARE DUMB. Jimmy is the king of rock my nigga ruck THAT PUSSY ASS NIIGGAAAA ELVIS???? I swear 2 God this is dumb as fuck. WHAT IS WRONG W U? JIMMY GOES CRAZY. W A K E U P ! ! ! STRAWBERRY PEELS SONG OF THE YEAR
>I bend her over I make her kneel
>stand on my money like my name SHAQULIAWEU@$UU$
Influenced joy division and all bands like it
typical white female post
nigga what5942
don't ever post again
OR ELSE WHAT NIGGA?
that's what i thought pussy
>why have they not been copied as frequently?
They're a direct predecessor of Smash Mouth
Kill yourself
PEOPLE CRAZY ON THIS WEB
>created the archetypal rock star persona
Jim was just a shitty James Dean
I feel like that persona was already there with Mick Jagger. I dunno, Gimme Shelter is the song where it feels the whole "bad boy who might actually hurt YOU" persona was cemented.
they both contributed in different ways
Jim was more "mythological", occult and spiritual along with the sexual dangerous energy.
>*shitty MKUltra circus music starts playing*
>I EAT MORE CHICKEN THAN ANY MAN EVER SEEN
>*shitty guitar solo*
>SHE GET HIIIIGH
>SHE GET HIIIIIIIIIIGH
>SHE GET HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGH
>*shitty ten minute keyboard solo*
>FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK
>*song ends*
>"mythological", occult and spiritual
He was a pseud with nothing to say
>sexual dangerous energy
And he had limp dick from all the drugs
why are you quoting the beatles?
The sexual energy was there with Jagger and I'd personally argue the mythological/spiritual side was already there with Dylan. I get very similar vibes with Desolation Row, It's All Over Now, Baby Blue, etc as I do with Morrison's songs. I'd say Morrison added those personas together into one thing but it wasn't exactly new.
so you don't like the doors
that's fine
im not trying to convince anyone of anything
the least you could do is respect the musicianship tho
>the least you could do is respect the musicianship tho
I like some Robby Krieger stuff but the band itself was circus trash.
Explain now, or please give examples of such trash shit.
What other bands were cranking out 7+ minute tracks that are still popular?
Nah. Just stew in your shit taste, Scaruffidrone
no, you're thinking of elvis
I think their blend of styles didn't really come directly from any of those artists. It's something that intuitively came out in the band when they played together. It's not like they put those things together like a puzzle. The thing that matters most is the potency of that expression, I think. Almost nothing is completely new, and you could say it was a blend of different things that were going on at the time. It surely was a unique blend. Like how they mixed jazz/bossa nova/latin with rock. Had a huge influence on later jazz/rock fusions.
You're think of Marlon Brando, actually. Both Dean and Presley were trying to emulate him.
No example, no point.
gimme shelter came out after the first doors record
James Dean died before Elvis made it big. Also is correct
Not my fault you're deaf
why would I argue with you?
you're like this typical bitter Yas Forumstant that for some reason is bothered by people liking a band they dont like. It's just not reasonable and worthwhile for me.
no, i meant that elvis was the shitty james dean, not morrison
James Dean was a pretty good Marlon Brando though. And Elvis told his director that he wanted to be like Marlon Brando in his first film.
Ian Curtis and Jeffrey Lee Pierce were huge fans. Les Rallizes Denudes were fans. They were massively influential.
Jim Morisson was a weakling. "I'm a backdoor man, I'm a backdoor man" you call that poetry?
>I've been down so God damn long, that it looks like up to me.
Yep, seems like poetry.
>MISTAH MOJO RISAN
>MISTAH MOJO RISAN
>MISTAH MURJURAISIN
>MISTAH MURJURAISIN
Poetry
Mr. Mojo Risin = Jim Morrison
It's genius
I'm a Morrison-tier genius then, user.
A yogurt of age = you're a faggot
>I've been down so God damn long, that it looks like up to me.
Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up To Me is the title of a book written in the mid 1960s, retard
>"I'm a backdoor man, I'm a backdoor man" you call that poetry?
That song is a cover of a blues written by Willie Dixon.
Nonetheless, TISM highlighted the poetry of it: "I'll be your back door man. Rectangular with a wire-mesh screen." That's some surrealistic imagery for you right there.
Dude are you serious? They have massive influence on post-punk and gothic rock. Listen to Joy Division and X (the LA band) and you'll see.
So they only influenced niche post-punk bands?
>Les Rallizes Denudes were fans
Got any source on that? Some of the longer and jammier Rallizes track indeed seem like they are influenced by the Doors but I haven't read anywhere that Mizutani was influenced by them.
they definitely had a big influence on pusswhip banggang
ya, that's for sure alright GODDAMN!!
>joy division
>niche
Some other artists that were influenced by The Doors: The Stooges, Type O Negative, New York Dolls, all of them very important bands in punk and metal.
Did Morrison influence Robert Plant? I always thought Plant was kinda similar in the whole occult-masculine-but-with-long-hair vibe.
those are good bands (especially the stooges), but it seems like they were moreso influenced by his stage persona
...
The first stooges album sounds like if the doors sucked at their instruments
That's like asking of Mark Lanegan was influenced by Kurt Cobain
no it doesnt
but mark lanegan came first and also influenced kurt cobain

>Poetry
Better than any lyrics made by a nigger.
Early this mornin'
When you knocked upon my door
Early this mornin' whoooo
When you knocked upon my door
And I said 'hello Satan'
I believe it's time to go
Me and the Devil
Was walkin' side by side
Me and the Devil, whoooo
Was walkin' side by side
And I'm going to beat my woman
Until I get satisfied
She said you don't see why
That I would dog her 'round
Now baby you know you ain't doin' me right don'tcha
She say you don't see why, whoooo
That I would dog her 'round
It must-a be that old evil spirit
So deep down in the ground
You may bury my body
Down by the highway side
Baby, I don't care where you bury my body when I'm dead and gone
You may bury my body, whoooo
Down by the highway side
So my old evil spirit
Can get a Greyhound bus and ride
>but mark lanegan came first and also influenced kurt cobain
Ding Ding. Morrison didn't influence anything but cuntery.
Wow, racist AND a Doors fan? Never would've guessed
