the problem is that unlike movies, you can't rate an album immediately after listening to it once or even twice. for example, I'm not going to torture myself just to find out whether Kid A is a 1/10 or a 2/10. my movie curve is much more negative and peaks at 6, 5 and 4.

i dont see why. if you can tell if you like it, you can tell how much you like it. thats what a rating is.
unless you think a rating should be an "objective" measure of value, in which case good luck, thats unachievable.
