>No, I haven't. My life has not been going well. To say the least, I no longer have anybody I could ask to sing over it and I don't really feel like looking. It's pretty funny really, I finally have this computer where I can make music more efficiently and I have no motivation. I just don't care. That's sad to hear mate. You have the potential to be someone. Keep up the work - someone believes in your skill. But - what's up with your life?
What happens if you take a sample from a song that has vocals and instruments and you automate a tight bandpass EQ to follow the fundamental frequency of the vocal melody? What would that sound like? Are there any plugins that could create artificial harmonic content based on that tight bandpassed audio to make the vocals sound a little more natural?
Mason Butler
>What would that sound like? the smaller the bandwidth, the more it just sounds like a single sine wave >Are there any plugins that could create artificial harmonic content based on that tight bandpassed audio to make the vocals sound a little more natural? like add in the rest of the vocal from just the basic pitch information of the fundamental? no
clyp.it/xcnt0bra Would love feedback on this. The beginning feels cringy to me and later on it feels too cluttered but Im not sure if that's just me. It really starts at 1:09 but the beginning feels like garbage so I don't know how to spice it up.
clyp.it/nkyzf2lm This is also probably garabge but I haven't even finished it yet. Not sure where it goes next and not sure if it's worth finding out.
clyp.it/zwrcqz50 also this "battle" music I wrote that I've been working on for a while. meant to be a build up to two huge space fleets attacking each other as they approach
i have like 20 more I'd like feedback on but I can't upload them all right now. I've written like 100 pieces since I got LMMS last march, most of it is garbage and a lot of it is ambient / slow stuff that lasts longer but still.
I'm trying to create one kick from 3 samples in renoise. Is there a way to just, combine the 3 into one sample easily? Or do I really need to render it the hard way in order to resample it?

****listening through iPad speakers btw******** >clyp.it/xcnt0bra Sounds like a soundtrack to a cheesy superhero movie or something Like a wannabe TRON soundtrack knockoff The song has potential if mixed better, think the mix is off, the drums are way too loud in the mix and overtake all other instruments Really just think its a mixing problem as the structure/progression seems to be there
>clyp.it/nkyzf2lm I’m digging this But again would mix up the synths that come in at ~40 seconds as they overtake the mix
>clyp.it/zwrcqz50 Again superhero soundtrack vibes What vibe are you trying to give off on these 2 tracks?
I have a job but I'm not paying money for something I could be ripped off for. If you're this afraid of pirating maybe you shouldn't be around other producers.

>I'm not paying money for something I could be ripped off for It’s called a demo and majority of music plugins have one Use it to determine

nothin better than a freshie /prod/ thread in the morning eh? so real quick question for y'all, why exactly is it that 99.99% of "electronic dance music" is in 4/4 time? why has no one tried making a bopper in 3/4? and before you say "theres plenty of avant-garde electronic artists out there that work in odd time signatures" i'm sure there are but i'm talking club music. in over 12 years of going to dance parties ive never heard anyone do it, and after some experimentation in ableton i really don't understand why.
so peep this shit, as an example just a classic lo-fi house track that hasn't been altered in any way except for having the 4th count of every measure taken out.
fucking right? might be a lil early to call but fuck it im sayin it, when this sound starts taking over the club scene at around oh i dont know early 2021 just remember, you heard it here first lmaooooo
Are you running that shit as admin? Sometimes admin rights cause issues. Sometimes they don't. Admin rights are a fucked up thing. Like you have to know about your admin shit from XP to Windows 10. Don't know about Mac. Windows Defender or shit like that blocked it.
First disable that shit. Then tell the shitty software: "You can scan my PC but fuck off from that filepath (where your crack's and keygens and that shit is) and when you're done installing and all that you can activate you antivirus.
Keep in mind though, that every keygen MIGHT be a virus and that cracked software causes strange issues. Issues these developers build in, because they knew you crack it some day.
Either progress to the next cracked program then or buy it or try freeware. I dunno...

>drums sounding like shit >song sounding like shit >everything sounds like shit, no ideas, banging head against wall
>realize you're just uninspired >put on some bangin chunes >ideas start flowing again ok so this is based
no problem my guy, I just resampled it in ableton then reimported it into renoise
>In my Cubase example you'd need a USB Dongle that costs 20$ or so, to try the demo! I have no problem pirating software that charges you for a demo
Ryan Gomez
what kind of a scrub are you that you still haven't disabled windows defender? do you get a sick thrill out of having your OS coddle you like a fragile child?
Dominic Taylor
it's an interesting point you bring up, but looks like rekordbox detected the bpm just fine, but the markers for where it thinks the 1st count of each bar are didnt do as well. i'm almost positive the developers didn't even consider the possibility.
Kevin Jenkins
>clyp.it/escglbhg Ok, this is sick. I would consider this 6/4 due to the grouping of accents and how the beat flows; but that's being pedantic and I'm coming from the classical world of music. Of course it would be a German using a tracker. Very nice. >showing pan and effects and all that shit, but my Drumloop isn't capable of this? What do you mean? I see panning and FX down at the bottom while you have your "Drums" track selected...? >You got wisdom user :) My favorite tidbit: >create track to run a piano VST but don't put any MIDI on this track >instead, make two child tracks that send MIDI data to that track >use one track for the right hand part and the other track for the left hand part This makes me want to set up two 88 key keyboards front to back like an oversized organ so I can record both hands in real time and have the notes show up in the proper staff without much editing. My fear is the reach might be a little wonky and throw off my playing. Does rekordbox have a setting where you can set the assumed time signature so it looks for multiples of 3?
Jack Cooper
i've been looking but i dont think it does, might check the manual but yeah like i was saying the dudes at pioneer probably never once considered that a non-"4-on-the-floor" track would ever be played thru their CDJ's
Because club music is meant to be bouncy dancey music and 4/4 has the advantage of being an even division (easy to count passively) and has a nice strong/weak pattern that has proven time and again to be the people's choice. To me this piece sound like a fast 2 part division (strong-weak) between the kick and quieter bongo thing flam, and the only way I count comfortably count threes is (strong-strong-strong) on the kick, which has a nice driving quality but doesn't tell me when to put my foot down for the one.
James Barnes
Nice workaround.
Interesting, interesting.
Didn't even know what that was until now. Gonna try that thing out tomorrow or so. Thought everybody uses a cracked or a bought version of Ableton for DeeJaying.
You have Master FX and Local FX. I want to apply and automate Local FX via hex.
I watched around and read around and found out that it SHOULD be the Sampler that is dedicated for this. right?
I typed in some random values but it doesn't change anything.
I fucking hate IRC but if it comes to this, I have to install it for Renoise chatting and all that shit.
I got into it because of the Venetian Snares meme and because I wanna be able to understand these fucking horrid trackers mane...
Don't think any of the DJ systems support it out of the box, but I did see this thread a while back on the Rekordbox forum, where some xml jiggery pokery was used:
Although scratch [sic] that - the pdf mentioned is no longer at the location in the thread

Whats a easy free daw I wanna fuck around and make something disco/psychadelic Was thinking of geting a cheap midi piano too

Technically free: Reaper Free enough: Ableton Actually free: none I know of
Brody Walker
What does technically free mean also tnx raper sounds cooler
Ryan Bailey
It's "Winrar free", which if you're not familiar with means you can get the full program for free but after it's "demo" period ends it'll ask you to buy a licence every time you start it up, however it won't actually restrict your use of the program even if you don't buy it.
Josiah Walker
>I want to apply and automate Local FX >via hex. >Sampler The types of local effects for samples are the typical tracker things and not effect plugins like chorus... at least that's how I'm reading it but I stick to the simple old school trackers. tutorials.renoise.com/wiki/Effect_Commands Reaper Mania has some great tutorials on YouTube to get you going. I just watched 14 of his Reaper 6 videos -- the exception being the one about video.
James Brooks
yeah and honestly trying to shoehorn odd time signature functionality into the xml would be more hassle than it's worth, the bpm detection is still working perfectly fine with the couple tests songs ive put thru. i still can't believe my stoned ass stumbled upon what seems to be a genuinely novel way of interpreting dance music's basic pulse. ffs i actuilly prefer this version of "as the rush comes" with the three count.
Has anyone tried free DAWs like BandLab, Ardour, LMMS?
I can't use a keygen on my laptop due to a very strict antivirus software I don't have the ability to turn off.
Asher Stewart
i'd say your best bet is to actually download Reason and just keep making 30 day free trials. There are no restrictions to the free trials, you just need to be connected to the internet.
Xavier Hall
tell us more about this antivirus
Parker Watson
I see 6/8 used often as an alternative and that was quite popular in the electroclash period, because it borrowed quite a bit from the glam rock rhythms that the glitter band used, again though Rekordbox would track the downbeat easily enough.
renoise, I love you, but I swear sometimes working with you is like pulling teeth with a pair of dull pliers
Asher Bell
0 effort/10
raise your speakers up to ear level and put foam or mouse pads under them to decouple, place a towel or tablecloth on the table to reduce reflection, clean your cabling up, pull your table off the wall about a foot, pull your keyboard in closer to your seating position. The small details are everything user.
Jordan Evans
it's the one that comes with Win10 I think. Windows Defender Antivirus. It detects and deletes the keygen for Ableton I got from piratebay :(
Charles Hall
allow it in the settings, then download it again
Colton Fisher
To avoid this I always make a specific folder in an easily accessible location (like directly under C:\) that's completely whitelisted in my antivirus settings. This way I don't have to tell it to make an exception for every file that gives me problems. I just download/extract it there and everything always works perfectly.
Just be careful with what you're doing though. I only use it for things like cracks where I'm going to install it anyway even if it gets flagged as virus, and if it's not from a trusted source I always scan it with virustotal.com first.
Ayden Moore
yeah electroclash was a wee bit before my time, my formative dance music years were 2004-2007 about, so anything older than millenium-era trance and hardstyle i missed unfortunately. beautiful track you posted too, i can't even imagine how crazy the parties in the early 90's must have been, here too but especially holland and denmark duing that time.
>>i'll never get to experience thunderdome in 94, why live

I can't afford gear so im left trying to build a synthesizer system with Supercollider, or Csound or Pd. Anyone have tips? I prefer the first two languages cause they use text instead of graphic boxes. Is there anywhere I can get information to just replicate existing synths to build a system? I just want to get to the point of jamming.
Lucas Sullivan
I want to start making music using my computer. Is this the right thread for that?
Jaxson Thomas
yeah it is. you're gonna wanna pirate a DAW now
Levi Cruz
A lot of the fuss about that time period (and I was relatively late to the party, first club was Sub Club in Glasgow in 1992) was because this was new for an entire generation of people so they had a shared experience that maybe got intensified collectively, but it doesn't take away from the joy that people feel when they themselves experience something for the first time at any point in time, it's the best part of any musical experience. the bit that happens in your own head.
Not saying that people didn't miss anything, just that the memories they read from people around at that time are being retold from a perspective of first experience, and anyone's first experience can still be amazing.
Ayden Young
Now I'll obsessively research which DAW I should download for a week... fucking OCD

Has anyone used a Fostex MR-8HD as an audio interface for Apple Garageband?
Looking at that briefly seems to indicate that it doesn't function as an audio interface, just as a standalone recorder with the ability to transfer recorded audio files via USB, probably appearing as a mass storage device to your computer.
