Dont
Guitar is fucking worthless in the modern day
Even BASS GUITAR is better
Learn any other instrument
Even recorder would be better since playing that well will impress people who think recorders sound like shit cause theyre retards that were forced to play them in second grade
i was expecting this, but not on the first reply lol
big cope
if you can play guitar you can play the bass
all bassists are guitar-rejects
IRL lessons with a good teacher is the best way. If you're poor, justinguitar
With a teacher.
Ive played guitar since I was 12
Its fucking worthless to learn
weird band instruments like the bassoon would be better to learn
Learn keyboard
The best way? Collaborate with someone you get on well with.
Daily practice, thinner string gauges for beginner fingers, learnn all the major and minor open chords. So start out with learning all the open chords, I would highly recommend using a metronome so you can start to learn how to play in time. Learn the minor pentatonic scale and start creating your own melodies using that scale.
just practice well and don't expect immediate results, you'll be carrying a tune sooner than you might expect
>all bassists are guitar-rejects
In what way? Playing a 6 string electric guitar is easy.
This. I never practiced with a metronome and now I struggle to keep a tight beat, specially when trying to record something. I can play perfectly on time with a drummer backing me up for some strange reason though
playing root notes are even easier
you're fucking stupid. I bet your dad bought you a les Paul and you ended up sucking at it, probably formed some shitty punk band, the better guitarist in the band got with your girl and now you're all bootytickled.
youtube tutorials if a one on one guitar teacher isn't an option.
There’s something nice about learning by yourself. You’ll probably learn faster but if you really love it then you can learn by yourself. There is a ton of stuff online that’ll get you through a year or two. For really advanced stuff maybe a teacher would be necessary.
Look bud, I just want to write and play music like my favorite musician, Shawn Mendes, I'm not trying to make a career out of it
>projecting this hard
I had an Ibanez strat from the 90s
I learned a bunch of Metallica songs and nobody cared cause nobody cares about guitar
>if you can play guitar you can play the bass
this is how you know someone can't actually play either of those instruments
The absolute best way is to just play like 3 or 4 hours a day. just make shit up. after 10,000 hours youll be pretty good
Learn piano first and then guitar. That way you're not just some playing some s o y chord shapes
you still have to spam chord shapes to get muscle memory down
Agreed with all except learning pentatonic. Playing any form of shmues in this day and age is cring
No nobody cares because you're playing shitty metallica covers.
yeah maybe because you were playing fucking metallica
Also trying to learn, which do I buy
True but its the knowledge of what makes those chords so that you can figure out how to move around the neck
If you have the money and really want to start with an electric go for it. a lot of people start on acoustic and cant get a similar sound to what they enjoy listening to. if money is tight buy a mitchell md-100 for $150. anything cheaper will most likely be shit
>cant get girls with metallica songs on his shitty 90s ibanez strat
>obviously guitar is useless skill.
>start creating your own melodies using that scale.
how do you do this? Am I bound to the scale shape?
move to brazil
Has guitar ever gotten anyone a girlfriend in the past 20 years? genuinely curious
Me, my old and current bandmates, literally any other guitarist that I know that isn't playing dad rock. Even the worst punk bands get groupies. Playing guitar well will get you pussy, not ALL the pussy but a lot.
how much is an electric guitar? i'm trying to put together music and an acoustic guitar would fit far better
700 for a decent fender that would last you a lifetime of growth. 150-200 for a decent beginner.
Money's tight right now, but in a month I'll have saved up enough to able to get a fender
A MIM Fender is often one's first guitar, but I would never sink more than $300-$400 into one as a beginner, and these days ones at that price are actually pretty elusive as they've gone up in value for whatever reason. Squier Classic Vibes are arguably just as good if not better than a MIM Standard. $399 brand new but used you can find them under $300.
For me a Fender makes for a great second guitar, after you've been playing for a while and know you want to stick with it. Squier CV was my first, Baja Tele was my second.
>like the bassoon
As a former bassoon player back in high school, you get a lot of attention. I remember putting a condom over the opening and blowing it up like a balloon as I blasted low Bb. Shit was magic, girls thought it was hilarious. Still a virgin though. The oboe player was too.
Played Mosquito Song on an acoustic, gf for a couple months
Took me a few months(two lessons a week with homework) with a teacher to get the basics down. First song you'll learn is probably going to be by The Eagles. It helps if you already know how to read sheet music (I played piano first) if not it'll take a little longer.
Justin guitar first - its free and you wont really need face to face to get the basics down and decide if you like it. better to spend a few weeks with justin guitar and ee how you feel after
and buy a cheapish quitar for now. dont worry if you love it you'll soon buy a better one - hopefully from one of the suckers who bought a really expensive guitar, let it sit in the corner for years and is now selling it for a third of its new price!
Is there a Starting Strength equivalent for learning guitar?
lmao cope bassfaggot
Study music theory first, learn basic harmony, then pick up a guitar.
Picking up a guitar first, before learning about music, is the best way to become an absolute fucking pleb.
Music Theory is fake and gay shit.
Just make noises with your instrument that sound cool.
>Am I bound to the scale shape?
Generally yes. You'll find that trying to go out of a regular scale shape without knowing what you are doing, will generally sound bad.
>Music Theory is fake and gay shit.
It is unironically based in physics. But you wouldn't know that, would you?
you can figure out physics through trial and error just like music bro
There are a few steps.
>Spend some time researching education options, especially online. This can be difficult if you are new to music as its hard to know what is useful advice. Ask people.
>Once you find a resource, stick to it. If you are not learning with a teacher, you have to be much more strict checking your technique.
>Ensure you make an effort to learn music theory. Find a lecture online, find some way to practice it (maybe getting a score and writing down a simple song you like).
>Importantly, focus on things like chords, scales, right hand technique and timing.
>Go slow and stay steady. Don't increase speeds until you are 100% confident.
>Along with these technical aspects and the theory, learn some simple songs that you like.
>Hopefully by this point you can pluck a chord and keep a beat. Now decide on either a comprehensive video course, getting a teacher, or using a good instruction book.
>There are lots of torrents containing packs of music education books. I do piano and there is a great torrent with like 150 jazz piano education books, very good. I know there are similar resources for guitar. If you're really commited, print and bind the PDFs, it will motivate you.
Feel free to ask me questions. I am a music teacher, specializing in piano, music production, and pre-college music theory.
Not that guy, but playing music with your left brain is a road to becoming an NPC drone with no soul & emotion in your music. Can't believe a literal autist trying to lecture literal artists. Clown world deluxe.
Playing music with exclusively your right brain is just as bad.
Play it with your entire big brain all at once and you might be able to, some day, call yourself an actual musician.
He just needs to all the time investment he made.
Unironically calling music theory fake and gay is unfathomably retarded.
You're just salty because anything beyond a power chord is well past the limits of your understanding,
The irony of 'artist' hanging shit on the NPC drone is not lost on me. Do you feel special, calling other people NPCs and thinking you are some sort of matrix breaking super unique artist?
As far as left/right brain goes, doesn't it seem logical to try and employ as many musical techniques as possible when creating music? Refusing to learn music theory because of insane made up reasons will just leave you deficient as a musician and limit your capacity to create art.
You're fucking stupid, I hope you make edm for the rest of your life.
there are tons of left brain autistic musicians in pop culture what are you even saying
>How do you do this
Well, that's what melodies are, a combination of notes from a scale that sound good to your ears. So you pick a few notes, play it over some diatonic chords and there you go. Look at this Major scale chord progression cheat sheet for example. If you want to start jamming then try playing the C major scale over this backing track,
>playing music with your left brain is a road to becoming an NPC drone with no soul & emotion in your music.
>playing music with your left brain
You're telling me you don't use your left AND right brain to create music?
Hot fuck ready girls love physics.
