checks out
he just loops stuff in a computer doesnt take theory
>literal genre touristcore artist
>cannot read music
Like fucking pottery.
imagine actually thinking that
imagine thinking this
yeah he definitely wasn't in a post rock band before going solo or anything
>I can't read music
If he's used a daw, he can probably read music to some extent. The piano roll works almost exactly the same as sheet music does.
he uses ableton I think
If it's got a piano roll, he should have a basic understanding of how sheet music works, even if he doesn't know the symbols.
>post rock
>frogposter
EVERY.FUCKING.TIME.
so you're a retard is what you're saying
This poster is the type of person to say "Aphex Twin is the pinnacle of electronic music"
>he was in a post rock band
>as if it proves he has any knowledge of music
pick any random chord, strum it with lots of reverb and feedback for 5 mins, gradually increasing in energy. go double time for 1 minute. repeat with new chord.
you need zero theory or talent to make 30 hours of the same droning note then some memey reddit crescendo for like 2 seconds and go back into one single note for 30 more minutes you absolute retards
I hate aphex twin actually. Maybe hate is too strong of a word but I don't enjoy his music at all, try again.
he is though, no album in the history of electronic music comes close to the complexity and expansiveness of drukqs
>all post rock is like godspeed
yeah so you're a retard just like I said.
based bait
this but unironically
to not appreciate the genius of Aphex is to not be knowledgable about electronic music, i don't listen to Aphex except for Drukqs usually (even though i heard his catalog nearly entirely) but Aphex is a genius, maybe he is a bit overtalked about - fair.
If you can't appreciate Aphex you don't know shit about electronic music and its history.
you're fucking retarded
you're right, I forgot what my original point with the post was. My point was that theory doesn't make you any better of a musician. If someone without theory can make this then talent and intuition are much more important

>Hack who makes entry-level garbage
>Not a real musician
Yeah, not surprised
ok tourist
>not a real musician
explain
No, you do not need to know music theory in order to be a good music.
No, knowing music theory will not make you a good musician.
Get it through your thick skulls.
not an argument, i heard more shit than you could ever dream of
>le push computer buttons artist has no concept of theory
>also makes shit music
ok?
t. brainlet not understanding polyrhythms and innovative textures
Meanwhile this is the music theoryfags make
youtube.com
Fridge is shit
best music comes from the soul and an almost childlike innocence and intuition. when you start making music with theory you inevitably lose some feeling, HOWEVER you might create a breakthrough in some area that others haven't considered before so that has its merits too
oh shit this sucks dickbags by the dozen
fridge is fantastic and wholly original

So this... is the power... of theory...
he also posted on that thead that he's planning on making more music with burial
>Jacob Collier
Every fucking time.
bro theory is used by almost every musician weather they know it or now. It's just a dictionary of tools that can be used in writing. You can write without any understanding but you are going to have a more primitive song. Unless you are the beatles.
based
>innovative textures
lol
>muh polyrhythms
t. high school music student
Theory is super useful, but if you can just intuit enough to make good music there's no reason to actually sit down and study this. It only works if you're talented enough though
Sure there is, why would theory harm your intuition? If anything it’d probably validate your typical approach.
i wish i could punch his face, i fucking hate his vocals
Theoryfags are the definition of soulless.
fpbp
Basically, I use the term “real musician” to cope with the fact that I spent years of my life learning theory, but my music is still shit and soulless because I lack natural artistic ability.
>makes millions producing music that people are literally hypnotized by and flock to listen to.
>b-but my guitar class teacher told me to be a “real” musician you have to learn ‘theory’ that really is just made up bullshit and captain-obvious tier facts that simply playing an instrument or even just listening to aboriginal people banging on their stomachs and hooting teach you anyway.
Reading music is useful because it is faster than listening to it, it’s a cool skill to have, a “real musician” is any body. If being at the top of music in every tangible and meaningful way relative to 99.999% of people who CAN read music makes them “real” musicians, why would anyone want to be a “real musician” if it really means “mediocre musician coping.”
When people talk about “real” [type of artist], I instantly know they are so stupid they could mistake a tree for a forest.
t. Midwit
t. Nitwit
you copied my insult you fucking hothead, you just clenched everyone thinking you’re a midwit
If you make music long enough you learn what sounds good and what works. You don't need to learn theory if you have a good ear and lots of time to practice.
Keep telling yourself that
he will, I mean look at the pic that started the thread it's literally proof of what he said
>mfw all the seething theoryfags in this thread who've wasted their whole life learning something rendered completely useless by actual artists
this is so fucking shit
Thinking you need to know theory to make good music is a massive cope. You either have a good ear or you don’t.
I like how no one debated you on that, kek
its not about the tools(theory/equipment) that make any artist create masterful works. Its a combination of talent and practice with a dash of luck to find things things that work well and then refining those components into beautiful things that people appreciate. Art is subjective and should make people feel. If the artist is just creating solely on theory it looses the feeling that creates masterful works. having fun and being lucid is what has created some of the best works in history.
Neither did Captain Beefheart
>You don't need to learn theory if you have a good ear and lots of time to practice.
That really depends on what kind of music you want to make
Well, his music doesn't sound at all like it requires any knowledge of theory to make. Is anyone really surprised by this?
>rendered completely useless by actual artists
Did you forget that classical music exists?
what I've learned through learning to draw, and this probably applies to music to an extent, is that all art is about raw, autistic pattern matching of memorized concepts, and being able to relate those abstract concepts to something concrete.
the science of it only helps in systematizing and categorizing the brute forced knowledge after it's already been discovered. theoryfags get trapped in their own little autistic world and get tunnel vision
Captain beefheart sucks. The only good music he was involved in was frank zappa. And even zappa had a lot of weird crappy shit.
>is that all art is about raw, autistic pattern matching of memorized concepts
you're not gonna make it
Also to the point of this thread: take note frank zappa was a notorious sheet music chad. So your stupid 3 chords and the truth nonsense can fuck off.
When I stopped worrying about theory bullshit fell for the "just draw" meme is when I saw the most consistent gains.
The biggest artpill is that you should go for output volume, and your IQ will naturally determine how much information you will internalize as a result.
"Just draw" shows you your actual talent level, and if you don't improve by just drawing, you got filtered by your genetics, sorry.
>tw*tter screenshot
drink bleach
That's by far the least efficient way to improve at pretty much anything, even if you do have natural talent or learning ability.
