over a whole mix doesn't really do much to adding towards an atmosphere beyond any shallow sort of way.
A lot of this is just lazily executed and is more style than substance, but the style is lacking severely. Certain people have managed to do it in a way that works but for the most part eh.
Not how these are made. Most the beats are made as crushed tracks originally, same with the vocals. Its not as simple as just throwing reverb and bitcrushing a mix, that's downplaying it. Plus at the end of the day the music still has to sound good and match the style. Not every song is going to sound right crushed. Thats why its a great genre. When you nail it you make some magical shit
