When I travel to live venues and talk with people, I have to ask what they're into locally and non locally to pinpoint where good shit is.

yea honestly i feel weird comparing myself to people i admire. it might be similar or influenced by but it isnt necessarily the same thing. genres are more broad for sure and i feel it speaks less about quality or culture

They would help us understand why they reached the sound they make. It is impossible not to be influenced by things you hear. You're brain simply cannot do that.
