Jazz is the lowest selling mainstream music genre according to CD and digital sales.
How exactly did this happen? Everyone knows what jazz music is, everybody has encountered or heard of it within entertainment. We are always taught that jazz music is a very revolutionary and great thing. In the early days before bebop, jazz music itself was the most popular music. Yes, jazz is even far behind older music styles like folk and classical right now in terms of popularity.
Knowing all of this, how did it fall so hard today? Why don't people care about it? Alternatively, do you believe we should accept how things are right now? Have the people spoken?
people continue to get dumber and dumber. most cannot appreciate something like jazz. pseuds are more likely to go for classical too
Eli Reyes
Inferior to classical by the standards of a classical music Inferior to popular music by the standards of popular music Jazz is middlebrow music par excellence and like all things middling will be forgotten.
Andrew Wilson
people have shit taste
Adrian Torres
most classical albums sales are probably just new recordings of beethoven and mozart and shit. there's no reason to buy new recordings of jazz music because we have the originals already (and the new shit is probably bad)
just a theory though I don't know what I'm talking about and have no facts to back this up
Lincoln Wright
sucks ass only jews like it
Asher Powell
For the exception of Evans, Gershwin, Tyner and Monk its pretty shit
Jack Walker
jazz is anti logos
Robert Cruz
It's boring that's why. No one gives a fuck about jazz unless you play jazz and/or you're some pseud reddit faggot.
Nathaniel Jones
>goes goes to college for jazz guitar >never shuts the fuck up about jazz fuck jazz
Christian Cruz
I know this might be too complex for you user, but music genres aren't just a sliding scale between Maroon 5 and Bach
Christian Roberts
The majority of time when normies say they "like" jazz, theyre listening to jazz playlists on youtube and spotify and couldn't even name bazic artists like miles davis and john coltrane. Jazz is seen as background music and only associated with being "chill af bro" to normies so theyre most likely not going to go out of their way to buy a jazz album
Ryder Ortiz
It's tough to market a genre where the only real selling point is artists being able to improvise.
Jazz was popular and revolutionary before much like punk/grunge was popular and revolutionary before, because it carried a social and political stance along with it.
Hudson Walker
haha you described me tho i try not to mention im not a jazz guitarist, you know, because we are often better than others
Dylan Diaz
>t. jazz pedestrian Accepting jazz IS background noise is when you come full circle on appreciation.
Anthony Myers
What a dumb post Classical is Inferior to Jazz by the standards of jazz music Popular is inferior to jazz music by the standards of jazz music
Carson Flores
kek supreme a kek supreme
jazz is popular music that figured out it was actually art - at which point, like all things it began to be too advanced to be popular and was superseded by new technologies of shallow music making and the west's faux-Puritanism - which forces eroticism where it does not belong by denying its existence.
Dominic Anderson
im not totally into jazz but i can appreciate it. Most people however, cannot.
Jaxson Hernandez
>my taste is superior to normies Whoa.
Aiden Brown
>We are always taught that jazz music is a very revolutionary and great thing citation needed
Julian Turner
Me, faggot.
Xavier Morris
>jazz is popular music that figured out it was actually art please explain when music becomes "art"
>it began to be too advanced to be popular you mean masturbatory
Brody Rivera
i think jazz is supposed to have less streams than classical too though
Nicholas Powell
no YOU mean masturbatory because thats the limit you can conceive of
Grayson Baker
jazz is more fun to play than to listen to
Hunter Foster
ok give me an example then
Nicholas Ramirez
im not sure i can, because anything you dont like you will call masturbatory
I guess when you said advanced I assumed avant-garde, which I am biased against and while i don't deny the content of more "cerebral" music I do object to the concept... but I'm just clarifying my view, not really addressing what you just posted, my headphones aren't working anyway lol
Carson Ross
you've dusted up an interesting topic: art. avant garde, cerebral . . . but i might be to drunk to do it justice.
However: this bit of Krupa is maximally popular and maximally modernist, which is why its fascinating and danceable.
Xavier Smith
Jazz midwit cope
Josiah Lee
a kek deferred explodes you dumb cunt
Christian Campbell
Many classical albums are indeed new recordings of established favorites. But many are also recordings of lesser-known pieces from all eras.
The social purpose jazz once had can be achieved more efficiently by newer genres of music. Jazz was superseded decades ago.
Austin Stewart
normies don't know jack shit about jazz, retard.
Ryder Morris
of course JAZZ wasnt superseded - as it cannot be be - but the mainline to ass town was hijacked.
Henry Ramirez
unironically the masses aren’t usually intelligent enough to appreciate jazz. they need to be spoonfed easy stuff that doesn’t deviate from a formula and takes absolutely zero thought to understand.
David Russell
wtf I love jews now
Anthony Rogers
what does midwit supposed to mean?
Samuel Sanchez
people can't hear jazz. just like how rock people say rap sucks. Rap doesnt suck, they just cant hear it.
the mainstream cant hear rap and it takes time to learn to hear it. which is why im ok with jazz dying. not being forgotten though.
Cooper Powell
rap isn't music though
Zachary Sullivan
rap has become so boring, I can’t wait til it dies too. but not forgotten of course.
Jeremiah Barnes
Jazz stopped being popular when it stopped being pop music, that’s really all there is to it. Rock also wouldn’t have survived in the mainstream nearly as long as it did if artists kept doing more complex prog wankery. There’s only so much a genre can do before it’s pushed the limits of an easy listening pop format so it becomes more and more complex and the dumb masses move on to different sounds
Sebastian Taylor
Good point honestly, as artists evolve in their music, they start pushing the boundaries of their genres making it difficult for the normie to listen to you they just migrate to the next thing they can play in the background
Isaac Roberts
What’s the visible ratio of Jazz songs to instrumental pieces without vocalists?
Hunter Ramirez
It always seems that people who play jazz enjoy it more than the average joe
Elijah Green
Of mediocre intelligence, as opposed to the properly stupid and the actually intelligent. Think journalist or jazz listener.
Brody Lewis
Because jazz is more enjoyable as an exercise in musicianship than as an listened experience.
Brody Evans
Because even classical, as unpopular it may be, leaves a lasting impression on the casual listener. Classical has distinct melodies. Jazz is mostly noodling wankery and its compositions have the lasting impression of a hockey game, not an impressionable artistic statement. It all kinda sounds the fucking same and no jazz composition is as memorable or enjoyable as any moderately-popular classical piece is to the average listener
Justin Ramirez
>lame unfunny buzzword got it, discarded
Nathaniel Gray
>haha you’re only as smart as you actually are but also you aren’t stupid and I’m going to explicitly tell you that you aren’t and this is somehow an insult you realize this is only an effective insult if someone considers them self a genius, right?
the left really can’t meme. you hate to see it.
Camden Thompson
I can say nigger with the best of them, midwit.
Gabriel Phillips
What's cool is how no matter where the music is played there will be someone who hears something that resonates with them.
Gabriel Garcia
thanks I know I’m moderately intelligent and not stupid, retard nigger genius. I appreciate the compliment
Michael Parker
There are classical pieces that are meant yo be wankery too. Just like with classical music, jazz has a whole lot of genres within it that can be intricately thought out compositions, or avant garde like Om. You can play the head of Giant Steps or So What and the average person will probably hear the melodies as familiar.
Nicholas Evans

Rap is the new mainstream tho, most of my zoomer friends (south american) are starting to be born into it, so they can't hear rock, maybe if it's really pop
Brayden Rivera

Lincoln Bailey

>no jazz composition is as memorable or enjoyable as any moderately-popular classical piece is to the average listener (not true, by the way) when I listened to Black Saint and the Sinner Lady for the first time it blew my fucking mind and I remember every note of it
