How's the pandemy going on in your place?

bump

on lockdown. military and police are guarding entry and exit points. me and my siblings were all sick for days with colds and sore throats but we've all since recovered mostly (we haven't been tested)

Not bad. Store's been out of oatz and dry milk, which could seriously impact my 2000 calorie breakfasts if I can't replace my stock in a week or so.
Plenty of beer on hand, lost one of my jobs and on paid leave for the other, almost "finished" my first post-virus track but my friends want me to play vidya like 10 hours out of every day so progress has been slow.

>2000 calorie breakfasts
Yas Forumsizen? Here gyms are lockdowned as well. Gotta improvize.

At least got an Akai MPK mini and a Launchpad to play and experiment with.

WELL I haven't left the house in about two weeks so i'm not completely sure.
Most places are shutdown but we don't test down in my part of States so we're basically pretending everything is fine (:

Can you post tracks to your clyp? You don't need to advertise them here.

Attached: ae9b43477b1b5e30f53fa3d723a8797016cacc57_hq.gif (500x457, 426.58K)

Yeah budday, I've been /homegym/ for years now so the shutdowns don't bother me.
Of the memetastic and borderline crossfit things I do I can unashamedly recommend a heavy kettlebell (whatever you can OHP with one arm) for full-body endurance and stability.
Gotta see if I can get unemployment for my job that closed.
For the rest of the shelter in place order I'm gonna set aside time to either practice piano or try to make a few tracks to a realistic but short deadline (I tend to get really bogged down with indecision and tweak, noodle, and rerecord parts for hours).
If it goes on long enough maybe both.

LOL sure, my output has been pretty shit for the past week though

Just got Live Suite. Which audio effects should i prioritize to get a deep understanding of first?
I know that Compressor, EQ8 and Reverb are some of the most important sound shaping tools.

Here you are not allowed to leave your hause unless you want to go to work, want to get your groceries, go to pharmacy or the like. So for me nothing has changed.

Nice. I noticed and I've been listening ;)
Your output still has me beat. Fuckkk. I just want to make music but I have this damn big project looming over me. Ahhhh! One more week of this shit, and then one week to learn a DAW and write some animu shit.

You are partly to blame for my desire to knock one out.
If you spend a day learning katakana, you'll be able to read all the engrish you can eat.

Attached: Table_katakana.jpg (770x463, 69.08K)

>>Anime song
shit, I thought there was more to it than that, like a specific type.
Like there's definitely a certain style I associate as being the "default" op or chill slice of life song but after just watching a few different naruto op's or hearing a mathrock song in the opening it's pretty obvious how diverse it gets.

>You are partly to blame for my desire to knock one out.
to thank. You have to be true to yourself friend.

>katakana
i'm trying to put off becoming a complete caricature, but perhaps somewhere down the line.

clyp.it/mumi4sxs
bit inspired by machinegirl but have no experience making jungle ish shit. also any idea how i make the intro work?

>clyp.it/mumi4sxs
I like this style of music too but I haven't done anything but read and listen so far.
I feel like you could use a transient shaper to give the stabs and drums more punch
Hopefully someone who knows whats up will chime in.
youtube.com/watch?v=Psg_YQ3vOSE

1/10 name
what piano? I like the sound of it

the vocals contrast the rhythm in a way that makes the song feel... not ACCELERATED like how machinegirl makes you feel. A lot of the random elements slow it down a bit... like they linger too long? They need to flash in and out and create a sense of urgency.

I agree with about the overall punch but that's a super shitty non-volume matched demo.
Transient shapers are generally not the first option you should be going to in this situation imo, your song lacks more in basic volume eq and compression- not that it's terrible but I mean you haven't taken it as far as those foundational tools should take you yet.

had never heard of a transient shaper before right now so ill look into that

yeah idealy i dont completely rip off machine girl but you're probably right on the vocal ideas not being there. hadnt even thought about all the side random sounds sticking around too long so thats and easy fix. just like cut a bunch of elements to play the peak of one of those sounds then be done with it for the rest of the song. that and eq and compression are the plan but like vocal wise really doubt im about to match machine girls energy and my roommate would be pissed if i tried lol. appreciate all the advice. really wasnt aware of half of what i was fuckin up

piano is brasted upright. fucking 15 gigs of kontakt samples of a piano that hasnt been tuned in 90 years or some shit. ive hated every other piano ive tried but this ones so fucked up it almost sounds human. its on vstorrent

Not good my dad hit me for the second day in a row and threatened to call the cops and also kick me out of the house. Wish this shit would end so i could go back to college.

sounds like a total cunt. probably gotta just take the hit and detach. in one ear out the other with any of those bullshit threats though. the police arent going to team up with throwing kids out their parents house during a pandemic. just keep practicing social distancing with your dad. hope it gets better for you tho dude

>clyp.it/z5p3au2x

opinions? I feel like there something that turns me off this track, but dont know what

Attached: coronavirus.webm (640x360, 1.38M)

Do you guys just go straight into making a track or do you get inspired from an existing song first?

I like it a lot. It could use a proper lead. Crazy guitar or vocals.

low end sounds muddy as fuck so the kick drum is barely noticeable. snare needs some high frequencies. the stereo separation might be a tad much at points. sounds better than anything ive recorded but that low end is definitely a real issue

Bros, I'm tired of playing by ear. I don't get the songwriting process. I keep getting stuck. I don't know what to do lads, I seriously need help. I lack focus, I'm depressed.

Uh, learn music theory? I recommend the 12Tone YouTube channel for an expansive but easy to learn guide

>clyp.it/52fshtus
I like the second one. could use a different/better EQ'd kick though. not bad

what am i doing wrong

Thanks for the suggestion, brother.

d...dd..does this sound good anons? (dont listen to the whole thing its just the same thing looped)
vocaroo.com/lY2kc0Xb322
hmm maybe turn down the 808's a bit so it doesn't clip, sounds good otherwise though

Attached: 8321495723895.png (240x240, 77.32K)

is it that bad? I haven't listened in my car yet

>vocaroo.com/lY2kc0Xb322
a lot of resonance on that. take some of the mustard off maybe. dunno what you're going for but it's kinda neat

I re listened to it, maybe its not that bad but the rest of the instruments is a lot more interesting and I think the loudness of the 808 kinda takes away from that idk
yeh I've gotta mess around with the delay, to reduce the eerie background noise, thanks for listening

clyp.it/a4sj3mwf
Does this sound decent? im still learning music production so i cant tell if i like it or not, feel like i could've mixed it better and maybe given it a better drum pattern.

How do one get a good ''low end''?

I'd heard that phrase a lot. But havent wrapped my head around this type of sound

thanks user. I have some lyrics ready for this. But my mike is not with me, and with the virus quarantine shit. I cannot go out my room :(

Would it be a bad idea to record my vocals using the macbook built in mic?

Bump

usually when I try to make something that sounds like something else its end ups sounding like crap, so normally I just fuck around until I get something that I like and build the song from there, sometimes is helps to get new vst's to explore new sounds

I have questions for you:
What do accents on sequencer like the 303 actually do? Just momentarily raise the cutoff value?
Another unrelated one: how do you go for designing impact sounds like you hear in soundtracks or evenEDM songs? Just take a kick/percussion sample and add long reverb on it, What else can you do?

Attached: 1.jpg (720x480, 184.96K)

>usually when I try to make something that sounds like something else its end ups sounding like crap
My SECRET is to pick just one element from a song, either to morph into my own thing, or use the concept of.
I.e if I hear a garage track I really fuck with before I start producing for the day I might use a really similar swung rhythm, and then do whatever with that, or I hear some crazy autechre fuckery and *think* I know how to approach that sound, and then use that idea to make my own sound and start the song with that.
Even when there's no song directly inspiring it, I (more often) start with just a single concept like that rather than a whole vision

how can i make this more exciting/ just generally better clyp.it/53hoq5os

this is all super good advice

Annoying. I’m watching ghost adventures and producing all day. Girlfriend is in Massachusetts with her mom to ride out this dumb virus. I miss her a lot. Hopefully my law school stays open because I’d like to become a fucking attorney at some point.

first thing in months that I actually finished
kinda generic but it's my first rodeo with dnb-like sound
vocaroo.com/6uNydaxDBzW
idk why but I just love the first half with the unorthodox melody/808s, feels like I'm on acid at an amusement park

god damn I fucking love this
sounds like if Iglooghost made soundtrack for Risk of Rain
honestly don't know how to improve it, maybe add some more different sounds throughout the track and make the transition between your silent moments (like 1:34-1:45) and the drops after them more significant/hard hitting? (Clear Tamei by Iglooghost comes to mind)
also maybe add some more percussion/hats in later parts so it seems more exciting?

Do what ya gotta do. If the built in mic is so low quality that it clashes with the song then you can just make the instrumental dirtier. Mistakes into miracles.

I've been doing this, except I take an element from a couple of songs

Attached: bed.png (646x759, 702.71K)

couldnt figure out why the speaker in my yamaha ps3 wasnt working so had to spend $40 on another one

That sound weirdly comfy. I love it.

Hi. Pretty new to production, I'm trying to recreate songs, I feel it's a fun way to learn.
There's a sound in this song that sounds a bit weird to me, I don't know what instrument (if any) was used to make it. Appears once at 00:02 seconds and at 00:05 seconds. Also throughout the song.
youtube.com/watch?v=kyRymiKOJu4
Sounds a bit like a rattlesnake. Reminds me of the guiro (latin percussion instrument): youtube.com/watch?v=3Jo2BOtu7Og
Could anybody identify it, please?
Thanks.

clyp.it/m4rympid

rate my shitty track

Attached: neet.png (640x520, 223.03K)

any tips/info on how to get this really nice sound?
youtube.com/watch?v=miWlfAlllOI
i'm not really well versed in the terminology, is this a pad or something?

Why those 4 parts with sience in the track?

clyp.it/qjzl00z0

I don't even know what to say
its like I can create a few good things back to back and then I make nothing but shit
