So I was thinking about making a knockout-style tournament (in the style of the currently ongoing Beatles tournament ).
Anons would submit one song (one song per band/artist allowed), and everyone would vote (through strawpoll, forms, or other).
First want to test the waters and see if there's enough interest to do it. Haven't decided the submission platform(s) either (spotify, soundcloud, etc.) I was thinking this is a great way for the community to help both musicians get their work across and listeners to discover new artists.
Any suggestions? Thoughts? Would you submit a song?
there should be some genre separation. you can't put power pop up against a drone recording (and there are a lot of drone 'musicians') on Yas Forums
Brandon Martin
You mean an original song or any song we like?
Jaxon Sullivan
Yes I would partake user
Benjamin Robinson
ok :)
Sebastian Evans
I have a dreamy synth song about my dog i could enter in the comp. It's old though. Should we do something new?
Oliver Harris
Has to be an original song by a Yas Forumstant.
Caleb Brown
would I need to make a new track just for the contest or can I link any of my older tracks.
Elijah Gomez
any older track will do
Jose Phillips
Why not? I'd join
Kayden Ortiz
nah, it wouldn't be fun. dubbi would win
Lincoln Russell
You don't know that.
Jacob Edwards
OP here, I need your opinions. Why or why not should we admit submissions from various platforms (I know not everyone has Spotify). Should we be inclusive or elitists, and why?
Isaac Campbell
Alright I'd just submit my favourite track I've made for a Yas Forums album
Noah Price
I don't put my music on spotify (I only make an occasional submission for Yas Forums or [s4s] album so I just do not think the investment would be worthwhile) so I would appreciate if soundcloud was an acceptable option
So I've been thinking. Is Soundcloud our best bet? If we include Spotify I see an issue in both that not all participants have songs submitted there, and not all potential voters would be able to listen to the tracks.
I also think dividing genres would overcomplicate things. Thoughts?
Landon Cruz
Soundcloud is best for this idea. Better to keep it open to all genres.
Andrew Hughes
I agree with this user
Ethan Murphy
Neither. That would just result in shilling. I think vocarroo or clyp. That way people can listen to the song without preconceived notions, and it'd also prevent Dubbi from faggoting it up with his garbage shilling.
I'd be interested in such a tournament. It'd be hard for me to pick one song though, cause I've written and recorded like 400+ songs across damn near every genre
Aiden Sullivan
Seething dubbi haters are lame. Your idea is lame. Your 400 songs are probably lame.
John Baker
Shut the fuck up! We hate dubbi
Jack Price
fuck off. we hate dubbi for good reasons. he has a mu makes an album thread going right now so he can steal music.
Juan Johnson
Can someone tl;dr me the whole thing about dubbi?
Aiden Reed
You sound pretty scared of losing to dubbi lmao.
Logan Martinez
The only person seething is you with your hatred of real musicians, Dubbi is the death of real musicianship.
Chase James
you obviously haven't had your music stolen by him. dubbi is an asshole
Dylan Phillips
Ok so how do we avoid this turning into a shill/dump thing? We're looking for actual engagement and participation.
Chase Barnes
Instead of avoiding it like a pussy we could just embrace it and have fun.
Liam Richardson
Actually no, dubbi is the one who's lame.
Sebastian Robinson
how are we lame? dubbi is a legit self centered asswhipe
Jackson Scott
I know what we can do to compromise. Main objective is helping the community out while having fun, so all songs obligatorily have to be submitted through vocaroo in order to participate; but compromises and incentives have to be done, so participants are allowed to share their Soundcloud/Bandcamp/Spotify links ONCE in the thread too so listeners who are interested in more can find them. Does this sound like a good plan?
Juan Allen
>literal faggot (the kind that actually sucks mens weiners) >horrible musician >horrible rapper >resorts to stealing other peoples' shit and passing it off on his own >horrible gimmick. 3rd rate ICP clown ripoff >shits up every /prod/ and /shill/ thread.
Asher Gray
again, anonymous upload sources (maybe even a rule to omit your name/band name from the song description)
there's 100 shill threads a day for shilling. Go to one of them and have your fun
Mason Diaz
>shits up every /prod/ and /shill/ thread. Don't forget how he hijacks every /mu makes an album/ thread
Adrian Garcia
This will give Dubbi the opportunity to do something, we literally can't do this
Nathan Gutierrez
Do I have to sing? Can I just do an instrumental piece?
Alexander Roberts
im down
Austin Myers
Anything goes. Might set a limit on song length (8-10minutes tops?) for convenience sake.
So I want more anons' thoughts on this anonimity take. Who's in favor and who's against it and why?
Isaiah Gomez
You could perhaps allow the winner to reveal their name/project at the end? But submissions should be anonymous
Nicholas Wright
I think anonymity is inessential but if more people are for it (or neutral) or against it we can do this anonymously. In fact, I think some people might be considered to share a track if it's anonymous, if they are unsure of their musical abilities and want to take part of boredom.
Eli Moore
The problem would be that Dubbi could post something anonymously and trick us into listening to his music.
Ian Martinez
Now that I think about it, isn't 10 minute songs too much? Consider that voters would have to listen to several tracks (of course we could divide the voting rounds by day to give people more time to listen to the tracks). Don't know, just a thought.
Sebastian Flores
Yeah the 10 minute limit was a ploy to try to sneak dubbi's shitty edm songs in
Brody Smith
How about we just scrap the tournament and make a "dubbi is a faggot" album where the beats are so bad, he wouldn't want to steal them, and the lyrics are all about how he puts stuff in his butt?
Levi Cooper
Maybe we could make it anonymous during voting but after the final round everyone is allowed to share and shill away. If anyone breaks anonimity before the tournament is over we could make it an instant disqualification by rule. The only issue I now see is what's stopping anyone from submitting multiple songs if it's all done anonymously?
Isaac Butler
you can spot a shitty dubbi track from a mile away. It's like if you gave a retarded 6 year old garageband and he just started putting random loops and samples in.
Connor Campbell
this is a great idea, fuck dubbi
Mason Brooks
Have them submit to you with their name, but it's anonymous to voters.
Benjamin Lopez
>If anyone breaks anonimity before the tournament is over we could make it an instant disqualification by rule. I like this
>what's stopping anyone from submitting multiple songs if it's all done anonymously? good point. I don't really have a solution to that problem. But to be honest, there aren't many actual musicians on this godforsaken board. Just wannabe fagtano-type music critics and autistic kpop stans. So maybe more songs being submitted would help the tournament be a success. Bad songs will be fleshed out pretty quickly, and the cream will rise.
Luke Baker
I seriously don't want to run that kind of risk. He stole my music last year and I'm still upset.
Matthew Bailey
if you uploaded it to any platform before he stole it, you can use the time/datestamp as proof it's yours and copystrike his gay ass
Landon Robinson
I wish. But no. I made it for a Mu Makes An Album thread and he stole it from the thread and had an album made out of those songs from the thread before we knew it.
Benjamin Wilson
that's partly on you, m8. Always have proof that it's yours.
Brayden Sanchez
that's just a based move
Luis Gray
yeah that's not gonna happen if you take care of having proof it's yours BEFORE uploading anything
Easton Stewart
stealing music is for talentless hacks. You sound like dubbi
Joseph Mitchell
Are you serious? We were making an album together, none of the anons in the thread were prepared for someone to randomly steal our work. What ever happened to working together.
Dubbi is not based at all. And his music sucks.
Jacob Parker
Have them submit to you with their name, but it's anonymous to voters this isn't a bad idea
Cooper Williams
We should probably have a rule where the video must be uploaded onto YouTube before it can count for the tournament.
Gavin Lopez
>Are you serious? yeah I'm serious. Even when I contribute to any thread like that, I always at the very least upload it to my clyp or soundcloud with a little description and link to the thread. Cover your ass.
Xavier Smith
You sound insecure that a guy dressed like a clown is outsmarting you.
Jackson Foster
get a real job, dubbi. your mom needs rent.
Jack Perez
this could work
I'd set up a burner email just for the contest. To insure contestants and avoid thefts, whoever doesn't have a soundcloud/bandcamp/spotify/youtube account with their shit already they have to prove they've uploaded their submission to youtube (it can be set to private or whatever if they don't want to make it public).
Of course there'll be some shitposts submitted but that's half the fun.
Then I'd set up the brackets with vocaroo links to all the tracks and we're good to go.
Cameron Sanchez
that sounds like a good idea. how many tracks would you take?
