When people don't know you, you're a failed pop artist it's simple as that really. There's a reason why label chose to sign her so early, and that was because she was already big on soundcloud with potential to grow global with promotion (and that's what she did).

Ocean Eyes only got big on SoundCloud because an Interscope intern posted it to Hillydilly. Right from the start she was being pushed by a major label.

Pretty sure it was pulling big numbers before they signed for Interscope but feel free to prove me wrong with sourced facts.

Hillydilly posted it to their blog shortly after the song was posted to SoundCloud, which is the only reason why it garnered so many plays. There's a strong chance Finneas' manager (who became Billie's manager right when they first uploaded the song) gave it to someone at Interscope who then showed it to the label's higher-ups. Regardless, it's still the case that she was given tons of opportunities by managers and marketers with almost nothing to her discography. She didn't even write Ocean Eyes.

I'm not saying the song isn't good or that she isn't marketable. I'm saying that the notion she blew up because of SoundCloud is completely false. It had everything to do with her brother's industry ties and his manager seeing her as a way for fast cash.
