There's not much to say about the music. It's all the same boring shit that all sounds the same, with tired heavy riffs in boring time signatures, wanky solos, and edgy lyrics. Only worthwhile stuff that I come back to every now and then are the nu metal stuff from the early 2000 which actually took some chances and experimented with more layered sound, sonic detours that were hit or miss, and singing with some pathos, and are also reviled by the fanbase because they feel threatened by outside influences
Stuff like progressive metal may be more worthwhile than the same old tired thrash/groove/death/heavy metal stuff, but why should I waste time on that when I can listen to prog rock from the 70s that was influenced by psychedelia and jazz with the Canterbury scene and achieved a much more interesting sound?
And again, why should I listen to that too if I value technical and compositional prowess when I can just listen to classical music?

My point was that TRVE metal lacks the technical proficiency and compositional proficiency of classical music, the fun improvisation and experimentation of jazz music, the trippy sonic landscapes of psychedelia and the better prog rock, while at the same time failing in delivering on the aggression and the unbridled energy and diy charm of garage rock and punk rock.
For me it's a case of worst of all words. It doesn't excel in anything aside for delivering fast-paced wanky solos that bore me to tears compared to what other musicians in different genres have achieved. And believe me, I loved that kind of shit growing up. My favorite band was death, and I was all about the bug four and thrash metal. Now I can't stand how boring and samey all of that sound to me.
At least slipknot and soad had interesting detours and a more layered sound due to their influences and contaminations, and korn and ratm could count on very intense and expressive lead vocalist which is something the genre has always lacked.
I guess I also like some of the more industrial stuff like type 0 negative and nin, but to call them metal feels like a major stretch. Same goes for grindcore band like napalm death which to me always felt closer to punk
