For the most part that just happens in black metal. If you want to get started with metal, start with Black Sabbath, the creators of the genre, than you can even think of listening to the crazier stuff.

but you can understand what they are playing. if you can't deal with that level of distortion, than you probably couldn't deal with alot of things. Led Zeppelin (even the later, not-stolen stuff) uses distortion, Deep Purple uses distortion, King Crimson uses distortion, Uriah Heep uses distortion. If Sabbath is too much, I don't know what I can do. I guess just listen to hard rock until you can deal with Black Sabbath

Which is fine, we're all autistic 13 year olds at one point. The music is also fine there's a fair variety even though it's all sad/mad/fighting a dragon fantasy music. this, i too went through a 13-14 year old metal phase. eventually grew out, there are still some albums which i enjoy but not nearly as much as i used to (Symbolic, most of Metallica's discography). listening to some of the stuff i used to listen to (kreator, megadeth, i think i shoehorned a few cannibal corpse songs in there) legitimately makes me cringe, i mean literally and actually physically cringe.

but again, i grew out of it. it got me through the years where i felt like being edgy, and i still see value in that. not for everyone, sure, but it serves a purpose.
