What's your favorite band and why?

Doesn't have to be the best band or anything, just whoever brings you the most joy. For me it's Ween. They're the band that made me think I could start writing my own stuff.

Same band, pretty much same reason. Really enjoyable, great variety, and theyre pretty funny and talented. Weens got a song for pretty much everyone, don't really get people hating them.

The Brave Little Abacus
they're the only band I still regularly listen to from my emo phase
something about how they blended so many different elements into songs plus Adam's weird but endearing voice and songwriting just make it the perfect band for me

Pixies, the greatest band in the world

I think part of why I like them so much is that they never really lost their youth. They're music matured but it never really became boring or commercialized. They were unapologetically themselves

Cocteau Twins. They create beautiful, haunting music that stirs up something inside me. Never fail to boost me when I'm feeling blue.

sup ween bros, ween's my favorite band as well
pretty much all this
great songs and musicianship without taking themselves too seriously

Attached: ween.jpg (960x540, 62.81K)

Undoubtedly Ween. The band that got me into music and allowed me to not take anything too seriously.

Why is everyone's favorite band Ween?

ween's pretty great. chocolate and cheese, quebec, mollusk are my favorites. listened to them a ton last year might spin them again actually
one of the very first bands that got me deeper into music along with the beatles and depeche mode from my dad (i'm 19 mods not underage). he had surfer rosa and doolittle on cd and talked about their influence on alt rock and shit: nirvana, weezer, etc. how you can hear their sound everywhere. amazing band. one of the first songs i learned to play on guitar was where is my mind too

i have so many favorite bands to choose from it alternates a lot and i can't really single out one there's so many that mean a lot to me in different ways
mbv, depeche mode, talking heads, tvu, the smiths, weezer got me through high school.

Autechre, if they count as a “band.” If not, definitely The Smiths

Women. A band that manages to blend all my favorite elements of rock music with a really cold and anxious feel to it. Two great albums (Public Strain is their best obviously). Chris Reimer was a fucking S-tier guitar player too. RIP

The strokes. Julian casablancas is agreat songwriter and singer. Arcade fire is second for me

Because they're fucking great. Have you heard The Pod?
Anyways, for me it's Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band. I don't actually like them, or any music really, but when I post TMR it seems upset people or make them think I'm cool so really just listen to it a lot as a contrarian.

Could you be any more of a giant douchbag?

phish, regularly improvising really incredible/powerful moments, truly feels like music's best kept secret. You never hear sounds this weird coming out of bands/venues this big.

weens up there as well, one of my most listened to bands from high school, still feels amazing to listen to. Phish does roses are free often but it's really a much different vibe

autechre close 2nd for me. Can't think of 1 other artist that's as consisnetly experimental / original / mind blowing. PIOBmx prob my favorite track. Do you like vladislav delay? Not consistently but recently been finding some stuff that's the closest to autechre i've heard before.

soft and moe

I was merely pretending. I actually genuinely enjoy TMR and Captain Beefheart's work (as well as music more broadly) but I felt like if I expressed that, others would think I was being dishonest or pretentious. So I simply presented my real opinion as if it were ironic or disingenuous because that's how people would have interpreted it anyways. I am deeply insecure about being perceived any possible way, so I obfuscate my true nature by making up a bunch of lies on the Internet. Even when I am anonymous, I cannot bring myself to identify with my true nature.

Ozric tentacles. Because they are spongy, bassy and complex.

Oh. So you can. Good to know.

Yeah, I was going to post Autechre as well. No artist I've come across has yet to really scratch the same itch that Autechre do, constantly implementing sounds into their music that you would never have imagined before, and constantly exploring uncharted horizons. Their sound design abilities are pretty much unmatched, and the fact that their music has no inherent message (not a bad thing, mind you, it just means that there's no pretense to it at all beyond the music itself) means that you can let your imagination run wild with what the music provokes in your mind and what it means to you personally. Honestly feel blessed to have been alive the same time as them.

kek fooled again, pleb! I was merely pretending there as well! I feel completely comfortable expressing myself honestly, I like to play characters online because it makes me feel smart for having tricked people I don't even know into believing that could even possibly resemble the character I portray myself to be! Get fukt, noob!

LOL, kek, LFMAO)))

Hehe, now your starting to see the light my friend! I would toste to that! I was just being a bit silly :)

Embrace new sincerity, user. Irony is for the weak.

Thats like Daniel Johnson right? Yeah, hes good

But Ween's my favorite band, I love The Pod, user.

HUEHUEHUEHUE awesome picture m8! Moar, lol

This is the redditest thread on this board rn

Deerhunter
They make me feel feels idk, Cryptograms and Microcastle were extremely important albums to me as a young teenager. They masterfully combine indie rock and shoegaze, and the songwriting is just always there. You can always tell even before the vocals hit when its a Deerhunter song. Also their only dud is their debut. Also I must have been mad at Cryptograms when I made this chart or something wtf, should be in Top Tier

Why were they so freaking good?

gonna copy paste this answer because I completely think the same thing about Neurosis

I think part of why I like them so much is that they never really lost their youth. They're music matured but it never really became boring or commercialized. They were unapologetically themselves

Death Grips

Never fail to motivate me. When I’m feeling down they’ll always perk me up, not with happiness but with anger. And anger drives me to accomplish more than happiness ever will. Their particular brand of nihilism has definitely helped me achieve things that I wouldn’t have prior to listening to them.

Fall Out Boy and Ozzy Osbourne era Black Sabbath

desu so far I've only listened to the Money Store and theyre nice, any specific listening order recommendations?

ween is a band for incels

they suck lol
great band

based

Exmilitary and Government Plates are my personal favorites. People on this board really love Niggas on the Moon, though.

Boards of Canada

They have achieved something that's beyond a whole bunch of landscapes for what music can be. Case and point: Geogaddi being my utmost favorite album ever that takes music to such a peak of creativity and atmosphere beneath the brain. Music Has The Right To Children and The Campfire Headphase are also incredible classics. Tomorrow's Harvest is great too, but not really as amazing as their predecessors.

Røyksopp.
They're like Boards of Canada but more fun.

It's obviously oasis

Fellow bros,
I love that Ween is just dudes playing music. They have such a charming and casual vibe that's always refreshing to listen to. I would give my kidney to have them come to Australia again

Kings of classic rock Lynyrd Skynyrd

they're just two dudes being bros it's so based

Motorpsycho. Huge and varied discography, very consistent quality for how many album they pumped out and their live shows are mind-blowing. Seen them 5 times and every show was a blast.

Attached: motorpsycho 3.jpg (600x409, 59.04K)

>tfw they'll never get back together

Attached: sad aku.gif (320x240, 2.81M)

Ween is pretty good, but for me it's probably either Phish or Mr. Bungle. Both bands push the boundaries of what a single song could do, constantly changing keys and time signatures and musical genres and every musician in both bands are top of their class.

TCB Band because they perfected rock music in 1970

The residents will forever be my favorite band
Ween comes pretty close but the residents are the reason I started making music and videos

Melvins

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra
This group is on an entire different level for me, they surpass post-rock, I love the strained and nervous vocals, the style of songwriting is amazing, and everyone in the band really puts their heart and emotion into what they're doing, I have massive respect for Efrim Menuck and everyone he plays with

Attached: SMZ_action02.jpg (867x577, 136.35K)

nice to see all the ween love in here

lol - you silly twinks can pull my dick any day!

Based. Ween is the fucking best. They incorporate so many different genres and playing styles into their music that you'll never get the same thing twice. Their funny songs also have a great sense of humor, but they can still pull off serious songs with a good amount of sincerity.

It’s a tie between Ween, MGMT, and Death Grips.

Xiu Xiu. To me they embody that meme about emotionally honest music to the utmost. I used to be a left-wing LGBT and found solace in what Jamie has gone through. Now that I've moved on from that I appreciate his lyrics for their sheer brutal reality. I love how they're a wholly unique band in terms of their soundscapes, and it pains me that not many give them credit for that. The closest I've found would be what Coil was doing towards the end, but Xiu Xiu took that aesthetic and applied it to more pragmatic songwriting. A Promise embodies that otherworldly industrial feel most, and remains the greatest album I've ever heard. On top of that their discography is stacked with classics. I'll admit that they had a dip in quality during middle portion of their career, but everything since Twin Peaks onward has been a fantastic return to form
