I don't understand how someone can't like a good melody, let alone call others faggots for liking actual music that contains something other than talentless screaming and playing nothing but the same monotonous power-chords over and over.

that's just false. you clearly haven't heard enough of the genre you're making broad these judgements about. it's rhythmical above all else, that's why "riffs" are appealing in the first place. the harmony is admittedly is bare bones, however that's not the point (and of course, there are exceptions).

You won't get a straight answer out of /metal/, but what people mean when they say "melody is for faggots" is that they don't like cheap, overtly "melodic" melodies, ie. one single homophonic, linear melody around which the rest of the song is centered, as in most popular music like rock or pop. There are tons of melodies to be found in metal, you just have to accustom your ear to heaviness and distortion.

If there's a 1/16th note, it's still rhythmic. It's less rhythmic than other music, but unless if all the instruments are playing out of sync with each out with absolutely no beat or reasoning whatsoever does it become arhythmic music.
Arhythmic music is extremely difficult to make, and requires a deliberate effort because people tend to go toward rhythm even subconsciously.
Even The Shaggs are rhythmic.
I have never heard a metalhead say that melody is for faggots. Bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and even Burzum have great melodies and they're loved by millions of metal listeners.
