What are some really obscure artists that you actually enjoy? Stuff that is clearly so far from commercial it could never become popular and stuff that is too amateur or left field to fit in with the avant garde crowd.
Sharkula is a rapper from Chicago, has a little following there and basically nowhere else. For some reason Spotify recommended him to me awhile ago even though his songs have around 3,000 listens. He's a total outsider rapper, just rapping whatever comes into his head in that one moment, all over the place flows, but like many outsider artists there's moments of genius.
He honestly has some MC Ride vibes pretty often when he gets more aggressive like in this track. Plus the instrumentals he raps on always perfectly fit his wild style.
just sounds bad. I don't see that as outsider. I just see it as low effort.
Alexander Morales
yo why he got farts on the beat
Lucas Robinson
same thing
Blake Scott
there's an obscure artist called tyler the creator. you probably haven't heard of him though
Samuel Nguyen
No.
Easton Jones
Bad Doctors. They have under 100 listeners and make some decent post punk. They disbanded years ago though.
Henry Ross
Not exactly obscure but definitely an outsider, especially after making Eminem relapse.
After getting dropped by Interscope his music has been mostly flow of consciousness as he abandoned writing and put himself in a mental hospital because he couldn't stop speaking in rhymes. Then it went further left-field after he tried to suicide by cop but got incarcerated instead. Stylistically it's akin to boom bap in lo-fi but it's really all over the place with a lot of rock/metal elements. Some might even argue that he did vaporwave before it was cool.
Not really. This just sounds like someone with nothing to musically say. Most outsider music had strong messages, just odd vehicles to deliver them. Think Daniel Johnston.
Yeah most people will have this reaction, that's fine. Doesn't make you "uncool" or whatever I'm just really drawn to first-take just do whatever the fuck comes to mind kind of music, even if it's imperfect or amateur. It's just one thing that I'm drawn to in the musical world out of a million other things.
To me I can defend Sharkula like I can defend screaming vocals, screaming vocals turn off the grand majority of people but to me they can be very enjoyable and expressive. Sharkula is sloppy, wacky, but within his sloppiness he has moments of greatness that really pay off for me as a listener, going like "Wait that was actually a really good line!" or "Hey this flow is actually really good..." I'm into that shit, most people aren't that's fine.
Benjamin Hill
Oooooh! You ever hear about Death Grips?
Josiah Sanders
Shit I gotta check this out...
Parker Ross
So it's just outsider music you don't like.
Ayden Wood
Too many to name, I listen to tons of obscure private press records from the 70's that only had maybe 100 pressings of when they came out.
Adam Robinson
>Most outsider music had strong messages, just odd vehicles to deliver them. Think Daniel Johnston. As a fan of outsider music Daniel Johnston is probably the best lyricist from any I've ever heard so using him as an example is kind of misguided because he's the only outsider artist I can think of that fits your definition. Most outsider music is pretty entrenched in the idea of the lyrics being free association or only making sense to the artist and their friends shit like that.
this is pretty good, first two songs had a strong melancholic atmosphere. got any more like that?
Anthony Lopez
youtu.be/lCpbri9kJuo Outsider Psych folk made by a guy from austria who killed himself shortly after the release of his only record. One of my all time favorites and probably the best stuff I've found on a sharethread ever.
was dubbi's youtube channel taken down? his music videos are gone
Christopher Bell
listening to martin luther king jr whopper with cheese, this shit is honestly pretty cool. really reminds me of a mixture of DOOM and aesop rock production from the same era. thanks for posting this
this is my music. the full versions of the tracks are mostly just repetitive and boring, youre not missing anything for the most part except for a few of the most brutal and scary things i made.
Jeremiah Bailey
but even though theyre brutal and scary theyre actually boring too so youre not missing anything
Spotify recced me this Voldy Moyo guy. He's basically a UK Playboi Carti rip off, but something about how amateur it is makes it more endearing for me. I find myself coming back to his stuff a lot youtube.com/watch?v=7rENHUbgHp8 youtube.com/watch?v=cx2ihLfkK4E
This album is fucking genius and no one cares. The beats are incredible and the word play is top fucking notch. I also love the narratives each song brings and it makes them all super memorable and distinct.
I'll add that the album is made by someone who is essentially the tard-wrangler/bestfriend of an actual crazy man who has lived his life preaching non-stop about alien abductions, christian science, and puppets.
Hunter Peterson
Wesley Willis and Daniel Johnston are 2 of my favourites.
Lucas Williams
>FJ MacMahon,
Dude is one of the most underrated artists ever. His stuff is incredible.
There's specific threads for shilling your own music nigger
Joseph Bailey
whats the story about making eminem relapse?
Benjamin Parker
DRUGS DRUGS DRUGS is a masterpiece of a song
Cooper Richardson
Oloff is probably the best rapper under 30 right now but his weird personality has stopped him from ever achieving any sort of success.
He used to get into fights with pitchfork journalists on twitter before being banned and it seems fairly obvious that he's blacklisted because he's put out some of the best music of the past decade and been completely ignored
