what’s /synth/ making music with tonight?
nothing, making music is a depressing waste of time
sorry to hear that user, hope things get better for you
yeah, if in the back of your mind you're trying to go viral
what’s the point then
shut up faggot
What’s the trouble sadboi?
my synth sounds so much better when i directly plug my headphones to it instead of running it through my audio interface
i think because im recording it in mono, is there any reason not to record a synth in stereo?
wut
there’s no point in making music if you don’t have an audience. that’s why i’m depressed and why music is such a waste of time
you should feel better about yourself
that dude isn't me, I'm me. It's more that I find making music extremely tedious and hard, maybe I don't know where to look or how to develop a sound but I don't know how anyone dedicates any time to it without blowing their brains out. Whether it's electronic or a string instrument
How do I use my synth with headphones without fucking my ears up over time.
Practice, always.
why do old yamaha organs have to be so big. there are so many CS-80 baby siblings on craiglist for free.
>that dude isn't me, I'm me
sounds like something that dude would say
friendly reminder that you can't hear anything over 10k in a mix.
>tfw my aunt gave my nanas E75 to goodwill
what are some synths whose parameters can be controlled by incoming midi data? is such a thing even possible?
First for coldwave
nice jag/jazz. i just bought a squier mustang to use for ambient loop stuff.
>buying an actual instrument to make music with
ngmi kid
Pretty much what im doing with my jag since i got the grandmother. Just playings arps and sequences noodling about about twisting knobs. If nothing else its just a lot of fun
hes not wrong
What’s everyone playing this morning?
renoise. getting into the tracker mindset before the new polyend tracker drops.
how much is that going to set you back? getting bugs and ciat all cross patched and in stereo is incredible...might have to splurge on that second Spring Tanker sooner than later
no idea, the price hasn't been confirmed yet
ah. I’m falling in love with these Bugs Crossover Filters, some really neat tricks in em, getting into Twin Peak territory. Nice video of Rob demoing his filters here, Tom Bugs was at this and seems he took notes lol.
Woops here’s the link, he demos the Twin Peak filter about 10 min in
vimeo.com
talk to me about trackers. Is it just a midi sequencer in even/list view? What's the benefits?
Very easy and intricate sample manipulation, fast sketching, everything in one window, useable without touching a mouse, instant overview about everything that is happening, great for intricate drum tracks, good MIDI timing
how do you get into making music with synths? i like ambient, dungeon synth and shit like that and im in the market for a new hobby to obsess over
Well fuck, I'm having too much fun fucking around with VCV Rack and actually somewhat understand synths now cause of it so I feel a strong urge to buy real gear now.
Fortunately I'm saved by an empty wallet.
god bless user, VCV rack is great
Miss you Uncle Bob etc
did he ded?
I just want a sub phatty so bad, bros.
crucify her
what is this? some sort of marimba?
t. synth virgin
you buy a synth and make music with it
nah, there is a piezo attached to each of the four bars and 3.5mm jacks for patching to Ieaskul F Mobenthey eurorack modules and etc.
actually this explains
synthmall.com
I was furious, i had been eyeing it ever since i got into synths. she got it from her church when they "upgraded" she was the church organist for 30 years.
how difficult can it really be to start a synth business
>synthmall.com
thanks!
any other resrouces? i watched the NY school of synthesis video and am really interested in sine wave phenomena, thanks again.
also this site is weird af, what is this shit? spells? coloringbook? looking like pat batemans notebook at the end of american psycho
yeah, he’s a character for sure. He’s Peter Blasser who makes Ciat-Lonbarde wooden synthesizers, Ieaskul F. Mobenthey eurorack, Tocante touch synths, shbobo digital etc. you should read his master’s thesis if you have some free time. Very interesting stuff.

also there are some videos of his workshops out there,

Just bought one of these little fuckers, I'm picking it up tomorrow. I can't wait to get started with it.
Nice, I've been wanting one myself. maybe a dfam as well to go along with it.
everything good is done in isolation, git gud first, find an audience later
the most chad maneuver is to create art that nobody yourself will ever experience
wrong
chad sells out arenas
I found an MC303 for a bargain, so I picked it up. It's a pretty cool rompler, the synth and drum sounds are amazing despite being digital samples. It's very sturdy, could probably survive being ran over by a car. The filter is really really nice and the reverb is massive! On the other hand the user interface leaves a lot to be desired, multiple things assigned to the same knob/button, biggest issue being the envelope having a single knob. The sequencer is not very self explanatory, even after reading the manual I couldn't figure it out, I had to watch some tutorials online to get the hang of it. Coming from the electribe it was kind of weird that you can't just pop in patterns easily, which greatly limits the live performance capabilities. The way you mute parts is weird too, all of the hihats are assigned to a single button so you can't mute the closed or open, it's all or nothing. It's also chuck full of factory patterns (133 for fuck's sake!!) which are totally useless and sound very cheesy, also you can only store 50 user patterns until the battery dies. Despite all that I'd recommend it for the sounds alone if you can find one cheap. I hope I get into it's workflow a little more and we can be friends.
The MC505 is where it's at. There was even an album with a bunch of hip indie types making tracks with it:
Ahh, that envelope!!! It seems like it still has the same buttons for part muting. Well, at least they put individual sliders for all the tracks instead of binding the part volume to the fucking cutoff knob.
