Rap is going through the same phases as rock did, and the final phase is lots of melodramatic self loathing and whining, like rock had with grunge and emo in it's death throws. I give rap maybe another 10-20 years at best before it joins rock in the has-been genres of music.
I am curious to see what will replace it.

This, the current mainstream trend seems to be trap pop rappers with just enough lyrical ability to say some marginally interesting shit now and again (see DaBaby and Roddy Ricch). Kind of reminds me of how post-grunge bands were more musically polished than their grunge predecessors but too safe to do anything experimental or boundary pushing. You also have throwback groups like Griselda seeing mild success which is usually a sign that the genre is dying as listeners grasp for nostalgia.
Denzel Curry, Uzi, and Carti are the only SoundCloud rappers with sustainable careers.

snoop dogg isn't a good rapper, he doesn't as much rhyme as talk over a beat about his "G" lifestyle, most other west coast rappers can at least string 2 words together
