Rap is going through the same phases as rock did, and the final phase is lots of melodramatic self loathing and whining, like rock had with grunge and emo in it's death throws. I give rap maybe another 10-20 years at best before it joins rock in the has-been genres of music.
Rap music is just rock music with a different singing style. It literally is just post-funk
Brandon Robinson
it's all about cowboy trap now you fucking boomer
Owen Gray
That's the nu metal of Rap.
Evan Butler
rap's popularity peaked in 2017, it hasn't been as big since
Cooper King
Indie rock is coming back
Oliver Morgan
its just in the process of being killed by the industry.
I think whatever it will be, it will be more electronic, and harsher in tone. possibly more glitch elements as well.
Jayden Campbell
>If it's not the mainstream, then it's dead and a has-been genre Could you be more of a pleb, OP?
Sebastian Price
hope not
Eli Lee
I don't want any genre to revive. I hope they all die and something new comes up. It's bound to happen. That's the way our history has always been. Someone somewhere has to create something
Luke Jackson
yeah there hasn't actually been a new genre since the 80's, if you think about it
Anthony Murphy
Read Capitalism Realism by Mark Fisher, friend. It seems you're on the right track to understanding our cultural situation.
Tyler Butler
>I give rap maybe another 10-20 years at best before it joins rock in the has-been genres of music As a rapag i unironically hope this happens. I'm kinda envy of the metalheads, punks, etc for their posers died out or moved on to another genre while rap is full of them.
Grayson Perry
Soundcloud and mumble rap is over with now. You're living under a rock.
Easton Price
Rap is in its post-grunge phase right now. Only the most shiteating normalfags care about any of the lame and uncreative artists who have emerged recently.
Daniel Edwards
Trap metal and goth rap is the nu metal of rap
Jack Powell
drug dealer rap >>>>>>>>>>> drug user rap
Jaxon Gray
This, the current mainstream trend seems to be trap pop rappers with just enough lyrical ability to say some marginally interesting shit now and again (see DaBaby and Roddy Ricch). Kind of reminds me of how post-grunge bands were more musically polished than their grunge predecessors but too safe to do anything experimental or boundary pushing. You also have throwback groups like Griselda seeing mild success which is usually a sign that the genre is dying as listeners grasp for nostalgia.
Brandon Young
Denzel Curry, Uzi, and Carti are the only SoundCloud rappers with sustainable careers.
Why do you guys keep ignoring trap metal music? You don't even have to like it, but it's objectively different from the stuff you hear on the radio, or emo rap.
The media isnt going to let rap die. Look at how shitty it is now and they still talk about it and give it attention and good reviews!
Joshua Perez
fucking BASED
Brandon Jackson
Don't forget to credit the south for early trap music
Ian Flores
it is my fault i hated rap music growing up in the 90s and 2000s and now we have this i am so sorry please just bring back rap like it used to be
Aiden Davis
why all these rappers look like pussies now this nigga look like a girl it's all these queers
Samuel Rodriguez
Uh, hello? Based department?
Jaxon Brown
do y'all think eventually every rapper is gonna pull a tyler and just start making other stuff with vague rap-influence?
Hunter Howard
cant have one without the other so they're both shit
Jason Ortiz
rap is trash and always has been
Isaac James
NOOOOoooo...When did Billie do this to her face?!
Isaiah Nguyen
I can't wait for it to die.
Isaiah Morris
good riddance
Matthew Powell
music in general is dying insofar as creative expansion is concerned, now it's all about retrospective experience to escape reality
electronic is pretty much the only genre that has room to grow these days
Kayden Cruz
unless the blacks discard hip-hop and invent another genre, the genre is doomed.
it can never be totally dominant until black people give up on it and the whites totally steal it, otherwise it's a massive cultural cringe for white people to be into rap
at this rate, it'll die before a new black genre comes around
Hudson Gonzalez
it has nothing to do with race you fucking retard
Gabriel Gray
Debatable, there hasn't been a new electronic genre since dubstep
Gavin Rodriguez
I personally dislike deconstructed club but that is still more modern than dubstep, same with all the recent afro-house and footwork stuff, if we are strictly speaking in chronology footwork kindof died too though, admittedly
you can still hear a lot of creative expansion in techno and house imo, no new genres perse but a lot of fresh ideas still
Tyler Scott
10-20 years? lmao.
its already dead in the water. big money jews are the only thing propping it's lifeless corpse up.
Xavier Campbell
Honestly all the deaths in rap made the genre sorta stagnate
XXX really could have taken us into to the next era of trap but I guess it was never meant to be
Thomas Cruz
Peggy is fun and unique
Hunter Morgan
He’s good but he’s so idiosyncratic that it’s gonna be a death grips scenario where he doesn’t actually influence anyone but loads of white people think he’s the best
Ian Morales
Oh shit you're right. Id say we are in the hair metal era of rap, or maybe thats what ringtone era was.
Adrian Lewis
We're in the post-grunge era now
Jonathan Jones
I don't fully see the parallels to that.
Austin Garcia
Someone said hip hop went down when the Twin Towers did and I tend to agree
2pac is essentially 90s drake, stop sucking off old rap just because it came out before you were listening. We didn't even have college dropout by 9/11.
Logan Lee
I don't even like 2Pac that much, but I can put on any of these "Best of HipHop 199x" Uproxx-playlists with a couple of hundred songs and the vast majority is good to great
Julian Hughes
post grunge didnt get its dick sucked by the media and critics the way this garbage hip hop does.
Blake Ramirez
We're living in an era where all mainstream music critics are completely paid off by record labels, it's insane but no one is willing to admit it, despite the same exact thing going on in all other types of media like film or video games
Julian Bailey
True but I also think they are just afraid to criticize anything minorities do cuz they are liberals. I mean Cardi B. is completely trash but because shes a black whamen, good luck finding anyone saying anything negative.
hip hop these days is god awful, trap ruined the genre, even shitty west coast artists like too $hort and snoop dogg and juggalo rappers like ABK and the ICP are more listenable than the shit that's coming out today
Ethan Barnes
>trap metal music Gimme some examples.
Jackson Allen
>calling snoop dogg shitty go listen to elvis you dumb fucking boompaloompa
Owen Garcia
It's the same thing it just has harsh vocals and sometimes samples a guitar riff
Landon Barnes
Zillakami and scarlord are some of the biggest names. would definitely be worth checking out ghostemane too.
Jonathan Wilson
snoop dogg isn't a good rapper, he doesn't as much rhyme as talk over a beat about his "G" lifestyle, most other west coast rappers can at least string 2 words together
Zachary Russell
Wish nu metal would get another run at the top
Benjamin Baker
why are white people such insufferable whiny faggots
Isaac Long
>Le seething Yas Forumslack retard I seriously hope this genre of post dies out soon bros
